Bought a 2001 Mako Bayshark with a 2001 225 Optimax a month ago. Issue popped up a week ago or so with the analog part of the speedometer working on one outing and not on the next. Merc mechanic reset the gauges, still had issues and the gauge went out completely on a trip this weekend. My question,,,is this a do it yourself unplug and plug in a new gauge job with existing wiring harnesses ?? My biggest concern is calibration. And the gauge lights up at night so I unplugged the negative terminal so as to not drain on the battery.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, it is a pull and play swap. The gauge will come with instruction on how to set it up (I.E. what pop ups and sensors) but it will work right out of the box. The new smartcraft gauges are autodetect anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I'm confused as to why the backlighting works and the gauge doesn't. I just unplugged the gauge and plugged it back up and it works, however all the numbers are static and unchanged ie...trip, oil level etc. I think it best to replace the gauge as soon as I can get a new one.
