The summer issue of ASPCA Action is "Celebrating State Legislative Victories" in announcing that Illinois has prohibited shark-finning.:roll
What a relief to see a financially cliff hanging state take care of first things first. On the down side, shark attacks in Lake Michigan could go up.

Illinois has not banned shark finning. They have banned the SALE OR DISTRIBUTION of shark fins. If you ask me, that is a good move- finning is pretty wasteful.

Yeah, I hate to take sides, but they are trying to make it illegal for the chinese immigrants there to make shark fin soup. If they get rid of the shark fin customers, they will supposedly damage the shark fin industry. That doesn't really work though, because China is the main consumer of shark fins.

It's stinks, because I see the shark fin boats everyday here. Costa Rica has a shark fin ban as well, but that just means you have to give the Coast Guard a little under the table money and then you can bring your catch in...
