I recently moved to CT and would like to register my boat that I last registered in NY about 2 years ago.

I was wondering if any of you have moved to CT and tried to register a boat previously registered in another state.

I've looked on the CT DMV website and can't tell exactly what i'll need.

I have the Title for the boat and trailer from NY, as well as the previous registrations.

Will that be enough?

It also seems that I have to lug the boat to one of a select few DMV offices for the trailer registration?

I'd like to have everything I need before I take time off of work, so if anybody has a similar experience i'd love to hear it.

Yes, worst case is that you need to make a return trip with the trailer for VIN verification. You might be able to duck that because you're not changing ownership, you're just moving into town and offering to pay your taxes to CT instead of NY.

If you have title and previous registration all in the same name and no points of confusion, you'll be the easiest customer they have all day.

You'll go to the DMV, wait in line, they'll hand you a number and two forms, one for registering the trailer and another separate though similar form for the boat itself. Ask for extra copies, they're very intolerant of errors and cross-outs.
You'll have plenty of time to fill out those forms while you wait for your number to be called.

Assuming that you haven't yet had the pleasure of experiencing the CT DMV...

1) Go to the Old Saybrook office, even if it's 45 minutes farther away.
2) If you go to any other office, get in line at the door an hour before the office opens. It's well worth your while to be near the front of the line so that you can get your business done before some idiot tries to bully his way through the rules and pisses off the whole staff.
3) Do not, under any circumstances, go to the Bridgeport office.

Went to DMV yesterday and picked up the necessary forms.

One thing that is unclear is the guy circled the Seller section....

Except I am the current Title holder and register in NY.

I hope they are not looking for the guy I originally bought it from, as I have no idea who that is anymore and handed that information over to the state of NY when I registered it there.
