Ok, I am looking to purchase a handheld gps unit because I just can't afford a fixed unit. So, my question to you guys is, what unit should I get? I am located on Long Island and fish the south shore pretty much exclusively. I want to be able to get to the Moriches reef and some near shore wrecks and have been told and feel, the best way to effectively meet this goal is by using a gps. I only have an 18 foot center console so I will not be going very far offshore. I am wide open to suggestions and have about a budget of about 350. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I am open to a used unit if someone has something decent for sale. I also have a Shimano Calcutta 700 that is new condition ( 10 out of 10) that combined with the cash I am willing to use for a deal. So please feel free to throw me some ideas.
Like I said any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Tight lines ladies and gentlemen and be safe out there.

Thank you all,
Chris

Do you have a 'smart' phone?

You can download the map you want, via an app. $5-$20 depending on your phone and the area you need. Save you a ton over a hand held GPS.

Works the same as a chartplotter.

If you must have a handheld. I have no complaints about my Garmin 60csx. Know there are other models they make as well.

I have a Garmin 176C or a Garmin 2010C if you are interested.
The 2010 is not handheld but is priced well.
