Just checking to see everyone's favorite flounder rig setup.

Also checking on the flounder bite around Beverly, Salem, Marblehead.

Thanks ahead

I like a High/low for flounder, sea worm on bottom hook and a clam on the top hook. if the skates are thick ill use sea worms on both hooks. I cut the sea worm in half.

That's what I use, just didn't know other preferences.

Do you ever use small shrimp or squid strips?

Anyone use gulp?...when we visit Ocean City MD seems all the large flatties are caught with a gulp sandwich with a shiner or minnow as well.

Ive tried gulp in Boston harbor with minimal results, sea worms are key.......you can chum em up too with crushed clams on the bottom, also helps to pound a window weight on the bottom and make some clouds.

Are you guys referring to Winter Flounder, or the Summer models (Fluke) ? Excuse my ignorance, but do you guys catch winter founder thru the summer months? can you keep any? our limits here are only 1 or 2.. so no one really targets them much anymore where i fish even when there are around...The rig CME describes, and methods (chum etc.) sounds to me like Winter fishing ... for Fluke, we do great with Gulp down here in NJ/NY ..usually I fish them on a teaser hook either tied on a dropper loop 1-2 ft above a bucktail sweetened with a strip bait or maybe another Gulp.. , or on a "tap dancer" type rig.. in which I just attach the jig to the dropper loop..then snell an Octopus or wide gap "finesse" hook for the gulp/teaser to the trailing tag . .. so the weightless teaser trails anywhere from 2-4 ft. behind the jig, and flutters nice. either way, my fav, the 4" swimming mullet in chartruese, is murderous on Fluke and Sea Bass

I have used the window weight method for both fluke and flounder. For fluke I use a 3 way with a squid skirt on a 5 kale hook with a squid strip on it. We can fish fluke till the fall, I haven't caught flounder in a few years.

I've caught many limits of winter flounder in Salem Harbor - using Gulp! Seaworms. I cut them in half & bait each hook on a tandem rig. I've had days where I've limited out in 30 mins using the same 2 pieces of Gulp! Every boat should have a jar on board!

I like a High/low for flounder

Interesting, do you also get them on the "high" hook? I always assumed they were really only down in the mud/sand. I've always used the double spreader rigs with the two arms and the weight in the middle baited with worms.

Clams have worked fine for me in Boston harbor for winter flounder.
Catch a lot on the high hook too.
Seaworms are a pain for me just to get fresh as needed vs clams that I keep in my freezer all the time for whenever I have the hankering go fishing.

Yes we get winter flounder through the year. The water last night was a balmy 62 degrees up here on the North Shore so you can see why we have flounder and stripers through the summer. I don't target them and have only caught a few striper fishing with sea worms so I'm not sure what the MA limit is? I miss fluking in NJ! Caught lots of big flatties in Raritan Bay and Great Bay in days of yore! Never got a 10 pounder but came awful close quite a few times!

Winter flounder is what I meant as fluke seem to like the RI coast better than northern MA.
Window pane flounder seem plentiful in the smaller size 12" but I don't see as many 15"+ winter flounder.

Appreciate all the info!

Last week we caught a bunch 16"+ in Boston harbor. They are around - you have to find the spots that are less well known.

ive done pretty well on the flounder this year both on Beverly side and in salem harbor.I actually just picked up 75 lbs of clam bellies yesterday up at intershell in Gloucester to divide up into chum. I also use the high low rig with clam on top and sea worm below, my only variation is a use about a 1/2" piece of gulp alive worm threaded on each hook above the bait. my daughter is usually the high hook everytime, she loves using the old drop line, her biggest this season was almost 18" i havent gone out in 2 weeks but im sure they're still around.

I use squid strips with a chartreuse gulp to. They tend to go for that by me a lot more than anything else

Didn't focus on flounder this weekend but was able to hook a nice 14" fat one on a .....
