Hi All,
Just FYI...new Garmin software update released today. Mainly to support AIS functions on the chartplotters and some updates to the GHP20 Autopilot.
GPSMAP 7212 software version 4.40
as of July 11, 2012
Changes made from version 4.30 to 4.40:
◦Fixed possible shutdown related to reception of test signals from AIS-MOB devices and Safety Related Messages from AIS transponders of certain configurations.
◦Added handling for AIS-MOB and AIS-EPIRB devices.
◦Added support for clearing AIS and MARPA-related message banners across networks.
◦Added an Always Off setting to the other vessels collision alarm so that users do not have to disable the alarm each time the unit is powered on.
◦Added the ability to share collision alarm settings over networks whenever they are changed
They will never fix the engine gauges.

No doesnt fix the ETA clock issue. I have the same problem. I have the TIME set to AUTO and somehow it cant always calculate the right time. So I switched the TIME to manual and put in the UTC time adjustment (In Configuration) and the ETA time is now correct.

Ok I might have to try that, whenever we head offshore part way through , the eta gets knocked back an hour

I noticed the ETA would sometimes be right and sometimes be an hour off and then be right latter. I haven't looked in to it yet, so now I know what to do. I just need to fool around with it to figure out where to do this.

I gave up on the auto as well and just set my time zone.

Yeah, mine does the exact same thing, it is fine near shore, as soon as I head out, about 15 to 20 miles, it switches timezones. But the time zone really shouldnt switch for probably 80 or more miles offshore. So just enter the manual timezone offset and it will work fine.

Sounds like you guys are entering a time continuum!!! You boats must be REAL fast!!!
By my calculations, we should be seeing a BIG update from Garmin soon. Always a few weeks after one of these small updates comes a big update with lots of new stuff!! Come on Garmin, I know you can fix the data boxes!!

I would SO love them to fix the data boxes.
Hard to believe the 3xxx series can do it, but you can't with the 4xxx series.

You and me both, it's like Garmin hired a bunch of new engineers that have never used their products in the real world.

Use your chartplotter for CHARTS, RADAR and SONAR!! Use your ENGINE gauges to display engine data!!!

Hope you guys have complained to Garmin Techs regarding the data boxes????? Send them email and call them on it! I've had conversations with them over them, and it's the one thing they never seem to get/understand is still a problem. They have fixed/changed literally 100's of items for us, but they just won't touch the data boxes for some reason, and they are an absolute mess!! It's the ONLY thing I have a complaint about on there software.
They are not consistent, not really customizable, difficult to manage, hard to get what you want,.....
Each data bar works differently (Cruising, Fishing and Navigation bars, then the Combos displays are different again).
Some data bars are customizable, some are only ON/OFF.
You can't separate the dept from Temperature
The Nav data bar works differently on the Radar display than it does on the chart display!!#$!% Shows different items...
When navigating, I want to have the Depth on Top Left, and COG on the top Right. When I'm fishing, I just want to have the Depth on the Top Left, and the Water Temp on the Bottom Left. There is no way to do this simple task unless I customize the data bar each time I move, no fun when drift fishing over a 50' spot back and fourth all day long!!
There is no reason we should not be able to put ANY data item, ANYWHERE on the screen. And then decide what color we want it displayed in, how big the font is, and if it is "overlayed"(opaque background) or "black boxed" on the display!!! Only having the corners, and black boxed 2" thick is just rediculous.

You need a Mercury Monitor NMEA 2000 Gateway or similar engine manufacture gateway to take engine data and put it on the NMEA network that Garmin can read and display

Yeah I was reading about it, looks like theres a cable for the lowerance that'll work with NMEA 2000 and yamaha, 80 bucks though

OR, you can use the precious real-estate on you $5000 chartplotter display for displaying Navigation and sonar data, and instead use the below Yamaha Fuel Management gage to display you MPG and range for $80!!

The real estate on my boat dash cost a heck of a lot more than my chartplotter did.
And where are you buying that gauge and sensor for $80?
If it didn't plug into my engine, I'd have zero use for a NMEA 2k network.

Its hard for me to belive that SIMS would be ripping people off selling a $80 gage for $462.00

I actually Have tachs including fuel and engines, and my radar and sonar are on a separate charplotter so my real-estate is cheap :) The main thing I would like to have is the range data.
