InLess than 24 hours I’m in the air, headed to Costa Rica. I want to thank everyone for the information and advice. For my part I thought I would, upon my return, post detailed information on all aspects of this journey, not just the fishing. From accommodations, transportation, the groups and guides I’ve dealt with… good or bad. It would seem to me that up to date reports on trips like this might help the next person.
Cheers Rick

Take plenty of pictures, you'll love the trip. I got back from Samara, CR a few weeks ago.

Thanks! I'll be following this thread, we are going in January! First trip, and we will appreciate any information. Not fishing this time, maybe in the future if we return. Are you renting a car there? That's our next major decision.....

I went to CR in 1999-- Had the best fishing day of my life--
5 Sails and a 98 lb blue fin.... They filet it and gave it to the restaurant across the street from the marina--we had 2 giant fillets for dinner...
Chartered a boat in Quepos which is on the western coast...for $400-- Im sure now its much more expensive...but what a fishing day!!
Would love to go back..
Good luck
Bill

Were you impacted by the major (7.6 magnitude) earth quake that just hit Costa Rica? - hopefully it was far away from where you are

I went with a group of friends. Stayed in Playa Hermosa for first part (do the bats and cats diving if you are certified). Then did the second half of our trip to the hot springs, arenal area, volcano, zip lining, horseback riding up to the rainforest to name a few things. We went for diving and found it good diving but the topside attractions were just awesome! Fun times!!

all is OK here no major damage in this area (Jaco/ Los Suenos) but it did shake pretty good.

Sorry I didn't read about this sooner, you're probably there now. I fished out of Los Suenos a few years ago and it was spectacular. I second the Ziplining, it was almost as much fun as reeling in the sailfish ;)

Sorry it’s taken so long to post this report…
First off let me say thanks to everyone who answered all of my stupid questions about Costa Rica, gear selection, accommodations…
This trip was absolutely fantastic there were no hitches, no issues, no problems and most of this is due to all the help Capt. Michael Alligood (Reel Intense Adventures) provided. I can’t thank him enough for arranging great accommodations (5 star condo), spectacular fishing, and inside information on what Costa Rica has to offer! If the Pacific side is your destination contact him he has the place wired.
Instead of giving numbers of fish (which I’ve forgotten) I’ve included a few pictures so you can get the idea. Also if anyone would like any details about the arrangements or details about this trip you can pm me or post a specific question or questions I’ll be happy to answer.
A Marlin on my birthday!

very nice pics, great job.
that same mate was on the boat we chartered (68ft, largest sportfish in Los Suenos at the time) and he was great. 9 sails in 3 hours was our tally, 6 anglers

Looks like an epic day of fishing on the Epic! :) The new boat that Mike's got looks great, I'm definitely a little jealous!

An excellent report. I am definitely tripping down to Los Suenos next spring with my good buds and will contact Capt. Alligood shortly.
