My trip a few weeks ago got cancelled due to ridiculous wind(Thanks Al Gore!!) so we are heading down this weekend. I know the tides arent the best but the water is moving a bit. Has anyone been fishing Cocodrie the last week or so?
Are they still biting like crazy down there?
Thanks for any heads up THTers

As of the weekend after the 4th of july...the bite was still hot at the typical summer time locations...
I should be down there as well this weekend..taking my grandfather fishing for his 85th birthday...just hope the weather will cooperate to let us out.

I fished all last weekend and did well on a falling tide in Pelto. We did not have to move around much to find fish. The Sulfur mine produced the most I would say.

Are they hitting on artificials or live bait only?

We were thinking about running out to Racoon point and maybe working the beaches out there and then working our way back in, but if we dont have to go that far thats even better. Also do yall know of any rigs with lights that we might be able to fish at night for trout?
We will be in a 22' auquasport with radar if it matters

Fished last Saturday and Sunday in Barre. Caught 50 on Saturday and 49 Sunday. Fished live bait on a crappy tide. One fish short on a two man two day limit. Saw guys working plastic that didn't work. Capt. Ricky is a long ride away to get bait.

Hey C..did you use live shrimp exclusively or cocahoes also? Do you know of any rigs with lights that would be good night fishing as well?

We fished only live croaker. Bought some in Cocodrie and caught some around Point au Chien. One of the platforms we fished in Barre had lights on but I don't remember exactly which one it was.

do you remember which side of barre it was on? I mean if its dark we should be able to see half way across the lake and spot it I guess :) Where did you buy the live croakers?

Platform was on the NW side of Barre. We bought croakers from Cajun Bait stand. Which is between Lapeyrouse and Cocodrie. Dealt with a woman named Julie. Bait was fresh and lively. I know someone who bought bait further down the canal in Cocodrie and he said it was terrible. If I were there this weekend I would 100% concentrate on the early AM bight in Barre or Pelto. Hard to beat that first hour and a half

I second Cajun Bait for the liveliest bait around. Get there early though, they sold out at 6am last Sunday. I caught a few specks on plastic after we got them excited with croakers. Ricky is way, way, west until inside shrimp season opens. I think Oneil (Baithouse) and Troy (Cajun Bait) are they only two around with a bait license. Did I say buy your bait early? If you run to **** Point, you can buy croakers from Ricky, if he is there....

Ricky will be at Caillou Boca. I talked with him yesterday afternoon cus I have some buddies going down there this weekend. Try Cajun Bait first. She opens at 5. Julie is fair on her bait and her price is the same as Ricky's, but she sells out EARLY

My cousin-in-law who can't fish worth a flip, caught a 3 man limit of Specks and Reds. 8 drum and 8 flounder yesterday in Cocodrie. He did not tell me where he went, just what he caught and the area. He launched at the CoCo marina.

Sadly we wont get there until 8:30ish tomorrow morning as my babysitter wont get to my house until 5:30. We are thinking of hitting a couple of islands right out of the HNC that we had success at before then maybe trying the sulphur mine if the islands dont pan out. From there we would have to make a call about Barre or heading for last island depending on what the water looks like. Of course all of this is assuming we are not getting SMASHED by a T-Storm! But no matter what my wife is coming and we will have no kids for the weekend(we have 5) so that is a big deal :)
The afternoon has a decent out going tide. Which do you think is better on a falling tide, the beaches at the islands or the rigs in Barre?

Cajun Bait will be sold out by 8:30. If you have the capability to transport bait, I would stop at The Bait House in Chauvin and pick up croakers. Barre gets dirty quick on a falling tide so I would head for the islands. The weather is going to be a big determining factor this weekend.

well just to sum up the weather won this weekend. We dodged thunderstorms and managed 8 trout and 5 reds for our troubles. But we ate well at the coco marina resturaunt and drank well everywhere we went :) Fun was had but fish were not caught :(
