I just purchased a 25' Topaz for a rock bottom deal, with a transom extension for twin outboards (boat now 27').
Just wondering if a single 250 hp would be ok for this boat...or would it be underpowered?
Thanks so much for any help!

Love the boat. What is the deadrise and beam?

My boat is 24' LOA cuddy cabin with an 8'6 beam and 19 degree dead rise. I have a 200 four stroke on a bracket and find it to be an excellent combination. With 3/4 tank (90 gallons), two guys and fishing gear it will do 24kts at 4000rpm getting 3nmpg.

Your boat looks relatively light and unless it has a very deep V I think a 250 would do fine.

In repowering my boat from a 225 yam two stroke to a 200 suzuki four stroke - the boat actually jumps out of the hole quicker with the four due to the extra torque. May have lost some on the top end - but I never run it WOT anyway and as you can tell from my cruise numbers I have nothing to complain about.

Hopefully you can find some other topaz owners that can talk from direct experience but that is my .02

Yes it was diesel dawgs boat...I have to do stringer work and other etc..all of this was disclosed by him at time of sale.. also I followed post on this boats problems prior to boat being placed up for sale....but I bought boat knowing all of this before hand and know what I am getting into and very happy with the deal!!

Now back to the topic at hand.....any other input---is 225-250 underpowered for this boat?
Thanks

Honda 250 or Suzi 300 and it'd scoot.... My 25 BW revenge is powered by a single Honda 225 and is a 23kt cruise and a 31 top end. Mine has a tower and glass as well.
