Did anyone see this on the Today Show.

http://www.liquipel.com/ That is their site, but I think it crashed cause of to many hits.

Here is their youtube page though, http://www.youtube.com/user/liquipel

Looks awesome if it works??

I can't access the link for some reason, but I've seen this before.

It could work, and the process sounds very similar to a type of conformal coating used in some electronics manufacturing (primarily aerospace). This type is a vapor deposited powder compared to the more common liquid sprays of urethane and acrylic, etc.

This type of coating has the same pros and cons. It goes everywhere. That means that during the process, the ports must be tightly sealed (airtight). Otherwise, they will be rendered useless.

So if the ports aren't coated wouldn't that mean they are still able to be flooded out?

So if the ports aren't coated wouldn't that mean they are still able to be flooded out?I believe they coat the ports with some type of gel like a dielectric grease. So the ports would still be protected, and work. A friend contacted them and that's what they indicated. Got the link to work and they don't say much about how they handle the ports.

I am not especially impressed at their ability to waterproof the solid glass front and back of an iphone. Pretty sure that was waterproof to begin with.

Now if they can waterproof the buttons - good.

If they can waterproof the ports - great.

They're a little fuzzy on the details there...

Actually this stuff was put to a test several months ago. It could not stand up to a full dunk, ruined the phone.

Dropped mine in the canal behind the house when getting off the boat. Now use a high tech system to prevent loss/damage to phone: it goes in a peanut butter jar with a bunch of paper towels for cushions - floats and is water proof.

Liquipel is a gas, it covers everything that air does. The phone is encased in a chamber and pressurized. the gas is applied there.

I have a Lifeproof and it works well, except you won't be taking pics under water with any ease. The screen cover does not pick up on touch very well when wet.

Seems to be water resistant. If you want to be able to take underwater video in HD you need to get the life proof case.

I think we'll see all these things waterproof soon.. They have bluetooth on just about everything now, only plug ya need is the USB (again bluetooth will probably replace it too) I have seen the chargers that don't plug in also (altho I never tried one).

Mine has been great since Christmas. It does not have the "rugged" protection of my Otterbox case, it also does not get stuck in my pocket. Its waterproof, I actually had the balls to test it out. One thing I don't like about it is the volume. The case seemed to knock about 10% off the sound of the speaker phone.

You dont need to touch the screen to take a picture. The top volume button on the phone takes pictures when pressed. Open the camera and press it. You will be amazed. It amazed me when I found out about it out too lol.

I saw the Liquipel thing too - interesting, but I did wonder - since it's an aftermarket coating, what does it do to the manufacturer warranty? Surely that would void it?
