Single axle trailer, 17' boat. One trailer tire, driver side cups on the outside only.
Any idea what causes this and how to fix?
Could it be a loose or worn hub?
I would think anything to do with the axle or spindles would cause problems to show on both sides.
Thanks!

I would expect wear on the inside of tire if it were a loose or worn hub.
A tire that is running "toe-in" would wear on the outside.
Torsion or spring suspenion ?

Spring suspension.

Cupping is usually a balance issue. Really loose wheel bearing can cause it. "Feathering" and wear inside/outside is an alignment issue. Could be a combination of several factors.

Thanks! I'll snap a photo of the old tire and post tomorrow.

on a truck, cupping would make you think the shocks were bad.
wondering if a spring bushing could be bad, causing some play in the suspenstion allowing some uncontrolled/undamped bouncing.
would be pretty easy to check, just jack the weight off the axle and see if you can get any movement out of the spring bushings.
just a thought.

I went to radial tires and my uneven tire wear disappeared.
