From my porch I have a narrow view of North Beach in Chatham. I did a rough count of 57 boats drifting along a stretch of about 1/2 mile. There isn't room for birds to land between the boats. Fun. Can't wait to see what Ryder's Cove looks like!

tell me how many out of state plates at Ryder's cove when you do mosey down there. And how many fist fights over parking spots........ Screw it I'm going commercial scup fishing, quota is at 19% and 0 pressure

So, I assume the fish have set up there (where they were last year off the new cut)? I have yet to fish that spot. I passed about 15 boats fishing there last Sunday, but didn't see any bent rods. Diamond/butterfly jigs are the choice lure? Slack tide, any tide?

Many many tanks of fuel have been bought with the proceeds from a nice quiet peaceful day filling tote after tote with scup.

I got the endorsement for when I was Comm sea bass fishing, but I cant get a price from any of the local buyers, if its close to $0.50 a lb ill go this sunday. as for stripers, if I did not have a full time job I would be crashing into all the pretty "commercial" boats off chatham right now.....

By mid day the boat count was up to 70 in that 1/2 mile drift. Trucks were parked up to 1.0 mile from the Ryder's Cove ramp, but strangely it didn't look as bad as last year. Only three out of state plates. A little irony,- there were two empty spaces in the spaces reserved for Chatham sticker holders, and the Stage Harbor lot was almost empty.

Scup usually hovers around a buck or so. Try Bergies in NB

As far as bass fishing, I counted 20 boats headed down The mid cape from the bridge to exit 11 (Chatham) and that's what I could see....

I wouldn't have thought it possible, but the fleet is bigger today. I did a quick count of 80 boats in the stretch of drift I can see from the porch at 3pm. I'm afraid to look at the collection of trailers on Old Comers Road. It might be ugly at the Rider's Cove ramp in an hour or two.

Try 450 boats that were counted.

Have fun with the $-2 drop in price.

chatham is a bust this year . . . was good opening day with even with 1000+ boats and sunday with 800+ boats, but bite has turned off. Poor Tin bite guys the diamond jigs aren't working this year like the last 2 years. Even the heavy hitters with 500/600 +ft wire and electric reels struck out yesterday. Wednesday and today were dead.

Race Point also shuts off like a light switch. Heard Boston Harbor is not much better.

I have a friend who's a chatham local who fishes commercially for about 500 different things and I feel bad for him.

I went out yesterday with my son for a couple hours and nothing but three pound Blues. It was lame! There are a few fish around but not many. Certainly not worth the ride from off cape.

I was out Tuesday around Monomoy, covered a lot of ground and came up with one small bass and lots of small blues. Went all the way out to the edge of Pollock rip, tons of sand eels everywhere, but no fish chasing them. Never saw water colder than 67 degrees.
My son went out with some friends to Sankaty and slayed them over the weekend.
Will be up to Nantucket and Hyannis in 2 weeks with the new tender, hope to find some better fishing then.

the weird thing is, the price took a dive.
it's slow everywhere and still the price drops.

Some big blues, a 34 and a 38 today and a shit ton of dogs. Footballs cashing bait all over too. 2 miles north of the new cut, 60 ft of water. Birds EVERYWHERE.

We all know things are like that...

I was just walked away from the cape for a few days on a Disney cruise with my wife and kid. Sadly that is the closest I was to the canyons this year.

Was fishing Ptown last week on Wednesday, funny story... I can count the number of times I fished above the canal on two hands. I completed my engine survey on my boat I am selling on Tuesday, all was well. So my wife, daughter and I went up to Ptown on Wednesday. In less than two hours we trolled up 3 or 4 bass over 34", biggest was 44", 3 or 4 28-34" fish, total of 7 and one bluefish. It was insane. To make things funnier this was all done on spectra and Yo-zuri squid all I had on the boat.

So of course we go back up there Thursday, opening day, from 0600-1700 with 1 bass, about 26".

Last year up on the NS we started the 1st wk around $4/lb...the 2nd wk down to about 2 bucks...same thing. The last 2 weeks it creeped back up closer to $4 again. Considering last year was like a 22 (fishing) day season I'm guessing a glut of 150,000# of fish slows the demand a little dropping the price.

Currently 150,000 # (15.4% reported)...I suspect 20% of quota is actually filled and slow to report. That said, those #'s reflect the same, if not faster, pace on filling quota compared to last year. So...someones catching fish somewhere...LOL
