I got a sorta quote recently from a local marine company that indicated it could cost 500-1500 to detail my 21' CC depending on how much buffying is necessary. Am I missing something or is that outrageous?
The boat has a small amount of oxidation, but it isnt bad at all. Am I fully missing how much this normally costs?

$500 is probably light oxidation buff/wax. $1500 is likely wet sanding several times with different levels of grit...plus buff/wax after.
If I were you, I'd go pick up 2 cheap rotary buffers at Harbor Freight, 3M light oxidation compound, some wax, a case of beer and call a buddy over. You'll spend $150 in supplies and could knock it out in half a day. And you'll still have supplies for another another job or two.

Seems high to me. I had a guy come to my house in Baton Rouge last year and wash/wax detail my 24 bay boat for $300

see big money that seems more like it to me. I would pay 300 for a wash/wax in my driveway

Getting other quotes would be good. However, ask what your getting for your dollars. Shinny oxidation wont last long. If you have heavy oxidation I would gladly pay your quote if they were going to do it correctly. I have about 30 hours invested in a 1993 21 foot cat i just purchased and still not done. However when I am finished - it shouldn't suck up stains and future Gelcoat maintainence will beabreeze.
