So I need some help. I am trying to figure out a plan for labor day weekend and have decided to bring my 16 ft Carolina skiff along. I am looking for lots of sandbars, blue water, and nice beaches. Fishing isn't going to be a priority on this trip. I'm considering any place in between Ft. Myers and St. Pete. Any recommendations to decent affordable hotels with available slips will also be appreciated. Thanks!

Try 'Tween Waters Inn Island Resort of Captiva Island, just off FT Myers.
http://www.tween-waters.com/

Or just up the road for a little more $$$ South Seas Island Resort.

Anna Maria Island. Relaxed. Small town feel. Fantastic beaches and plenty of sandbars all around (Egmont, Passage Key, and the tip of Bean Point). Lots of families.

The above mentioned resorts in Fort Myers will break the bank that week. South Seas will be min. of $300/night plus all the fees that they will charge you. Tweenies will be about $250 a night plus fees for the boat and trailer. Jensens Cottages may be the least expensive on the Island. Tarpon Lodge or Cabbage Key will be a little more reasonable on the prices and is a great place to stay. Tarpon Lodge has a website with all the prices for Tarpon Lodge and Cabbage Key, they are owned by the same family.

With a 16 foot skiff, you need protected water. Check Cape Coral, just outside of Ft. Meyers. Lots of protected water, Pine Island, Matlacha Pass, Captiva island, Sanibel Island. Look on a map, they are all barrier islands, many coves, and passes to fish. Oh.... and the fishing is great.

I'll be in Old Fart Myers that weekend, but only because its a free trip. IMO, the beaches suck, but the fishing has a lot less pressure.

Yes our beaches cannot be compared to siesta key.. Fort myers beach is a place to stay away from, right now that water is pea soup. Captiva is beautiful however, the beaches are crystal all depending on the weather. Haven't been up there in a month or so and it was pretty clear. Cabbage key is a great place to take the family for lunch, http://www.cabbagekey.com/dining/

If the weather is nice, you could take a boat trip to cayo costa state park, http://www.floridastateparks.org/cayocosta/
I've been there once and its absolutely beautiful.

Just a couple suggestions on whats around our neighborhood
