579 hours on motors ran strong in Feb 2012 treated the gas and just did a bunch of maintenance. Just did the VST's, thermostats, impellors, oils, fuel/water seperators, new balancers. Now the port motor surges when running, wont idle all the time and has a hard time restarting. The motor shakes like its gonna jump off the damn transom. In fact, it shakes most of the time....Then when I was almost at the dock, my starboard motor started surging for the first time. Ideas?? Help fellas this is killing me. :banghead:

Surging at idle, hard starting, stalling and loss of rpms are signs of dirty injectors. Mine did all of these things and injetor service fixed it all. My VST filters looked perfect by the way but the injectors were a mess.

Some local shops have tools to clean the injectors. Don't let them sell you new ones as the fuel injector man http://fuelinjectorman.com/ does a great job for cheap.

Are your enines shaking at all rpms or just at or near idle. If it's all the time you migght have something else going on or you might have really bad injectors. If I were you I'd check my plus as well. There is a youtube video on fuel injector man dot com that shows you how to remove the injectors. It takes less than ten minutes to pull them. Let us know what happens.

Also I have been asuming that you have already dumped your filters in a clear container to check for quality. You might just have junk in your gas clogging things up?

Shaking is mainly at idle. I will definately pull them. I would love to clean them myself, if that is even possible. Missing a lot of boating time lately...

Try one more thing first...it involves the use of a portable tank and some sea foam...

Here is a link to a great thread on using it to clean and decarbon motors...

But it sure could be injectors and that link to the fuelinjector guy has had good results..

Update...I removed all injectors and cleaned/decarbed thoroughly and reinstalled with extra caution(as always). I soaked them down good several times. All new spark plugs as well. Ran great and didnt surge like before, however the port motor continued to idle intermittingly. The motor would idle fine for a period of time and then shut off. The starboard motor did this a couple of times as well. The port motor does vibrate much more than the starboard.
I guess the next step is to drain the gas tank completely??? :banghead:

Any other comments?? This sound like a gas issue??

The first response was the correct one. You need to have the injectors cleaned properly, cleaning externally or decarbing will not get the job done. I wasted a bunch of time doing exactly what you have done to no effect till I got the injectors cleaned properly.

Sometimes its the little things that get you. After every attempt failed( new filter everything, primer balls, anti-sipons removed, vsts u name it) I removed my fuel water separator canister and used a mirror to check the underside. It was nasty dirty corroded mess. I had a new cannister on there plenty tight, but never noticed the corrosion.(steel housing) Wired brushed it down reinstalled cannister and ball primed like a champ fuel flowing good. Apparently it had not been making a good bond with the rubber seal and therefore the vacuum leak. Damn thing about beat me...but now its time to go fishing:thumbsup:
