Guys, my BIL has his new boat docked in Stone Harbor. Nearest inlet is Hereford, which has zero navigation aids. You have to rely on local knowledge to navigate out.
With the number of boat owners in the area, how did they let this pass? Meaning, letting the USCG stop maintaining aids to naviagation in the inlet.
We made it out and back yesterday, but it was tight coming back in. You could see the shoaling.
Would anyone here, have a plotted course to exit inlet?
Thanks in advance....
The USCG doesn't maintain evry inlet everywhere. They are responsible only to maintian those with a history of commercial traffic. Hereford in NJ like Moriches in NY don't meet that criteria.

Due the shifting shoals in Hereford's the USCG says its not navigable, I believe them! If you're on the N side of the stone harbor bridge its not to bad going thru townsends, which isn't the greatest or head south to cape may. I steer clear of Hereford's,not sure of how ins co would react to traveling unmarked waterways. You'll have better shot at getting your answers on another site thebassbarn.com look in the homeport section or search Hereford's north cut. Tabby is a more localized NJ site.
there is a ball marked that the para sail guys put out there, key is getting to and fro it. Good luck
