I decided it was time to go mahi hunting for the first time this season. Assembled some members of Team BrindiSea which consisted of forum regulars BurningDayLight and Trayder.
We were in 600' by 7am. Not much action until we nearly tripled that depth, but eventually we found the fish. ended up with 8 fish, all gaffers. Lots of debris and weeds out deep. the fish are there, you just have to have patience.

Great photos! That sounds like a good day, how far offshore before you hit that magic depth? 25 miles?

we weren't running and gunning, but we weren't trolling blind either. there were enough rips, weed lines, logs, debris, etc. to keep us busy. Birds were here and there but never produced anything for us.

no vertical jigs, but we did drop a big bucktail and whole ballyhoo. that's how we picked up one of the larger mahi. we also made multiple passes with the X-rap magnum down deep on wire.
