Left the dock this morning with my buddy Justin, Tbroush, and 2 of his neighbors. Ended up hooking up with Tokinred's crew offshore and got to watch them put the smack down on some Gags making us look bad. Our first 3 drops resulted in us getting owned by monsters of the deep and I believe that shut down our bite shortly after our arrival. We ended up scratching together a few nice Red Snapper, Mangroves, and Gags before moving farther offshore.
We found a few nice shows and drifted for a few minutes. I used a jig that I received from a forum sponsor http://www.thehulltruth.com/fishing-miscellaneous-items/436836-vertical-speed-jigs-sale-victory-lures.html. The jig's finish is fantastic and resulted in 3 keeper Red Grouper meeting their demise before we anchored up. Carlos decided the butt of his Pink rod was digging in to his vagina and causing discomfort so he used the rod holder to fight a keeper ARS from  It looked like we were going to have to get him to a hospital afterwards. Justin put out a flat line and got busted off. Put out another flat line and Justin landed a large Bonita. Put out another flat line and Justin got his first Tuna:thumbsup: In the mean time, we finished up our 5 man limit of ARS and Gags and had several Red Grouper in the box as well. We were running low on ice and room in the 350 quart coffin box so we decided to troll for a few minutes and jam to "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen:grin: We landed a monster Bull Mahi and called it a day, running in at 42. Got back to the dock around 2:45.

I dropped off my 2 ARS and Gags to my buddy Mike to clean for me. That is the ultimate "work smarter, not harder" trick.

I've been using this website for years to gather useful info and have never had a reason to post until now. I want to thank Gordo again for his hospitality and for putting us on some incredible fish. This was my first trip beyond 110' and it was one I will never forget.

It's nice to be able to get to those depths, until you're faced with the fact that it is still a long way out there and that means that you get to watch the fuel pump continue to tick off $$$ bills at the end of the day:( We ran 150 miles round trip and burned about 110 gallons.
Planning on making the same kind of trip 2 or 3 more times until the close of Red Snapper season.

Killed it!! Nice job
Thanks. The body is paying for it today though. I need a nap;cool; I don't know how you charter and commercial guys do it. I fished Friday and Sunday and felt like a train hit me this morning.
Again, Tokinred gets a lot of credit for the preparation and planning of this trip. I was just fortunate enough to ride his coat tails.

I feel your pain! I put $375 in mine Sat. for a total of 116 gal's. $3.229/gal - not even 1/2 tank. I can usually get ~1.5 but Sun was rough as hell, tabs planted, so about same as you around 1.2-1.3. I wouldn't mind going 50+ mi. I just don't have any #'s out there. That would be an expensive scouting trip:o
Good luck to all you guys fishing in the washing machine known as the GOM:thumbsup:

LOL at the pink rod and the vaginal pain!! We ride the guys pretty hard on our boat as well. Which jig design did you catch the red grouper on? I was looking at them and decided that I liked the 5.5 oz, 5" one best.

I was using the 3.5 oz 5" blue jig. I suspect the 5.5oz 5" jigs would work the best for our area though. Most of my hits came while we were drifting and I was doing nothing more than dragging the jig acorss the bottom.
