Seeing as we are on the subject of killing stuff legally, seems our good buddy Guy Harvery, you know, the one we all made wealthy by buying all those t-shirts? Well he has teemed up with HSUS and PEW and whoever else to try to persuade marinas across the nation to ban the hanging of legally killed sharks by rec' fishermen. This, apparently, is the reason sharks are on the decline. Never mind the other countries fishermen who fin live sharks by the thousands, but, hey, nothing GH can do about that right?

Think sharks are the last? Really? Marlin next, then tunas and every thing else.

We need to stop crying about legally caught fish by other rec' fishermen and take a good look at the bigger picture and the right to go fishing at all because that is under attack.

Never really liked Guy Harvey - his picture has always been under the dictionary's definition of Liberal - definition: do as I now say, not as I did.

I am ok with killing an occasional shark if you are going to eat it. I have no tolerance whatsover for killing a shark or any other fish if it is just for bragging rights. That is a complete waste of food.

You probably wouldn't like Mark The Shark. He kills them and throws them in the dumpsted.

I don't agree with the movement and I do think comm's do a hell of a lot more damage to shark pops than recs. That said the VAST majority of makos caught by rec's (and comms) are immature. They may be legal but they're also immature.

Shortfin Mako size at 50% maturity:
Male- 73" approx 150 lbs age 7-9 yrs
Females- 108" approx 500 lbs age 19-20 yrs

Just something to think about.

One shark per year for me. It takes too long for most species to reach sexual maturity, and I thoroughly enjoying catching and releasing them.
