So I'm sure no matter what city you live in you see those signs tacked to light poles or stuck in the ground right next to the road. Annoying advertising and it makes the community look like crap.
Well my city (Hollywood, FL) has come up with a solution, an absolutely brilliant one. Finally I feel like my tax dollars went to a good cause. Even though this program only costs 300 bucks.
The code enforcement officers go around removing the signs. Then they have a person enter the phone number of each sign into a database. Then an automatic calling system calls the number 20 times a day with a message saying the sign was placed illegally.
The calls never stop! The computer calls the numbers 20+ times a day. The people that own the signs are calling the city begging to be taken off the call list.
The only way to get them to stop calling is to show up in person at the police station and pay a $75.00 fine.
I love it!!!

Skyking - I thought exactly the same, only the number I was thinking of was the phone number of Mayor Bober's office.

Won't last long. Harrassment using the phone system. The first legal challenge will make it go bye-bye. Whoever thought of it is going the right direction, though.

Maybe a tax that the printers charge in advance and forward to the town in question. But that then places the shop keeper as a tax collector.
Forgot, they have us doing this allready!

Could the offender just put call block on the number? No more calls.

Why would it be considered "harrassment" if it's just a "reminder" to pay fees that they owe for BREAKING THE LAW??? ;?
GREAT IDEA!

Great article, sent to my city council rep or consideration. We currently have manual system in place o call offenders ands it has proven costly and labor intensive. Hopefully we will be able to implement. Thanks
