When should trailer tires be replaced. I have Goodyear Marathons on my 07 trailer. They look good but not sure I should base decision on looks alone.

Thanks

Stock answer from Goodyear is to replace tires when they are 6 years old, based on manufacture date molded on sidewall.

Practical answer- tires fully exposed to sunlight in hot climates probably need replacement that often, Tires on trailers stored indoors in cool climates probably last longer. Tires run at their max weight capacity need replacing sooner than tires run at well-below their weight capacity.

The Marathons on my 2 stored-indoors trailers are 2005 and 2006 dated, run at 60-85% of weight capacity. All the tires look like new except for tread wear, I would not hesitate to run them 10 years or more. One trailer, original set of tires ran 14 years before I replaced them with the Marathons. Rowboat trailer, I ran a 25 YO set of tires 3000 miles to Canada and back without problems. Just replaced a 20 YO set of tires on my antique car (also stored inside). Never had a tire fail in use. If I see serious cracks forming between the treads or a blister on the sidewall, I replace the tires.

I would get rid of your GY Marathons immediately. If you have not had a blowout or a tread separation you are living on borrowed time. I got sick of fixing flats on the side of the road after 4 blowouts. Get some decent tires when you replace them. Lots of options but I have a personal hatred of Marathon's. I'm glad you've had luck. Just don't push it.

x2. If you have Marathons, they should be replaced as soon as you realize they are Marathons.

This has got my vote.
