I currently own a 2006 tundra, and do alot of towing.
Even with extra leaf springs this truck squats alot when towing a 6000#
utility trailer. I've heard the new tundra is much stronger. I have never owned a ford truck, but i am willing to look at them. Any opinions
on either truck will be appreciated

Both are great trucks. I own a 2011 Tundra and tow 8000lbs regularly and feel that the truck is confident doing so. I wanted a F150 when i bought my truck but found it hard to find a F150 with max tow package, 6.5' bed, and a cab that could seat 4 (the extended cab was not adequate). If I found a F150 with this criteria, it was so loaded to the gills with options that didnt interest me that it was out of my budget. I ended up with the Tundra because it matched my budget and criteria best. I found that the Tundra double cab seated 4 easily, had the 6.5' bed standard for hauling, and I could get the max tow package without going with the completely optioned out truck that racked up the price. I still think the Ford is better looking and has a nicer interior but I really like my Tundra and dont second guess my purchase. The new silverados are very nice too and will say my previous silverado gave me trouble free ownership for over 100k.

Any of the V8 offerings in NEW Tundras (4.6 OR 5.7) are going to be vastly more capable than your current ride and offer equal or better MPG to boot.

The F150 is currently the freshest off a redesign of the 1/2 tons. In addition, Ford is making some of if not the nicest interiors and their new twin turbo 3.5L V6 is getting rave reviews. Reliability has been excellent. All of this adds up to the F150 generally being the most expensive of the lot RIGHT NOW.

To contrast, the current model Tundra is the oldest of the 1/2 tons since its last redesign. Interiors can be pretty stark and plasticky. Reliability is best in class. There are some unbelievable deals right now for new Tundras, which is typical of all the manufactures as the model reaches the end of its life cycle prior to a redesign or freshening. Ive seen 7k cashback and 0% for 60 advertised on TV every night this week.

Both trucks are supremely capable and reliable. You can't go wrong with either. From pure financial standpoint, the better deals are at Toyota for the time being.

I had this same choice to make less than a year ago and I was torn. I was driving a 2004 Tundra similar to yours. I went with a new Tundra for a couple of reasons. While the F150 interior and seats are nicer, I do not like the rear hinged doors on the medium cab models. Also, I could not find any trucks with the max tow package and ecoboost. On the Tundra, the rear doors are forward hinged and I can still have a 6.5 foot bed with a standard wheelbase. Also, I got a good deal with 0% interest.

My 5.7 Tundra is very powerful and a strong tow truck. The city mileage is poor (11-13) while the highway mileage is decent (18 empty).

I recently moved from an '04 Tundra to an 2011 with a 4.6 and a towing package.

This motor is smaller than the last trucks, but puts out over 70 hp more than the old one ..as well as it has a lower rear gear and a 6 speed automatic.

I have a bigger truck than my old one with more room, more weight to handle a bigger boat and the same economy as the older truck.

I also have that famed Tundra reliability.

I like the Ford trucks, especially the ecoboost...but it needs twin turbos to get all that power. The 5.0 was my next logical choice, but the numbers just were not there. It was a new motor in the Ford trucks in '11, and they were getting premium prices. And all I wanted was an XLT 4 door..nothing too fancy.

I have a little over $25k in my SR5 DC, premium radio, 8 way power drivers seat, a couple other niceties and have been happy with it for the ten months I have owned it..I think it looks prettty good too..

just bought a truck 2 months ago. I test drove the Tundra, F-150 and the Ram 1500. I ended up going with the RAM. When I test drove the truck I knew it was the one. It rode the best and I have a long daily commute. If it were me I would go towards the ford. When I compared the two the Ford looked to be more stout than the Tundra.

Have had gasser 1/2 tons from Chevy, Ford, and Toyota and diesel 3/4 and 1 tons from Chevy and Ford. For a 1/2 ton truck it is hard to beat the 5.7 Tundra, although I haven't driven a new 3.5 Ecoboost Ford. I do know that the Ford will cost $10k more new vs. a comparable Tundra. Ford interior is a little better too. Have ridden in a lot of Dodges and wouldn't own one unless I had to have a Cummins.

Bet you can work a sweet deal on a trade with your local 'yota dealer...

I have not had the best luck on the reliability front with my Tundra but maybe it is due to being a 2007....I am keeping it so I am keeping my fingers crossed....

hey guys,
I threw a wrench in my original post. I went and priced a new F250 today, 55,000 WTF, who would pay that for a pickup truck. I guess i'll go with the tundra. Thanks for the input.

Well you know your not comparing apples to apples. Tundra = 1/2 ton and Ford is 3/4 ton.

Just traded my 02 Tundra (127351 miles on it) in on a 5.7 2012 one. Truck listed at 38500 & got it out the door before they figured in my trade in figures for 28300. They're dealing right now.

You do realize you can deal off the msrp? My $56k 250 was $47k before we even sat down to haggle. As far as the Tundra vs F150 I don't even see a comparison. F150 interior on a whole other level from the cheap looking Toy. Ford has two engines (6.2 and EB) stronger than the Toy and a third almost as strong in the 5.0. Lastly the Toy is a Jap truck and don't give me that oh well it's built in America crap. It's a jap truck. The only other half ton comparable to the F150 right now is the Ram. You get what you pay for.

Theres some good deals to be had right now and the current production Tundras have none of the first year production glitches (2007). These trucks may not have the nicest interiors when compared to some of the Big 3 packages, but I will tell you this. They are work horses that are currently lasting with Toyotas legendary reputation for running forever. Rear diff is oversized, brakes are oversized, Trannys are rock solid and the 5.7L has shown that itll run 200,000 miles without a hiccup regularly. If you want a solid truck that wont spend much time in a dealership anytime in the near future waiting on flash programs, repairs and TSB's I think the Tundra will be hard to beat. If you want fancy......go with a Ford and get an extended warranty!

I owned a 2010 F-150 for 6 months after having a 2007 Tundra for 3 years ! I got so sick and tired of Ford trying to get my tranny to shift right that I couldnt take it any longer, I ditched it and bought another Tundra all at my loss $$$$ wise! But my sanity was worth more than 5 grand!

Just so you dont think I am lieing here are all 3 trucks
