I just purchased a new to me 2520xl parker. It has a 225 yamaha four stroke on it. Since this is my first yamaha engine, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good mechanic on Cape cod for these engines as well as someone who can do odds and end work on the boat. As my old yard only works on mercury.

Thanks

Jeff

Where on Cape are you? Doug Savonen is great. He's in Orleans, but I don't think he's a Yammi cert guy. I've heard good things about the guys over at Outermost Harbor in Chatham too. Heard nightmares about the guys at Nauset in Orleans.

thanks. I am in yarmouthport. Anyone know a certified one man shop? I hate paying $100hr labor rates.

Only time I needed service on the Cape (on a 1wk family vacation) on my F115 I brought it to Nauset in Orleans and they had me back OTW in 1-1/2 days and that is because they had to have the part overnighted to them. They did all the paperwork for the warranty service and all I ended up paying was the overnight shipping charge on the part as Yamaha would not approve that as standard practice.

One data point, but a real positive one for Nauset.

I need to send my F100 in for service, any updates to other shops on the mid to lower Cape, that are not attached to a big marina or sales shop?

Try PJ Ricker in South Yarmouth 774-836-2682.

Millway Marine in Barnstable harbor was always good to me but a little pricey like the bigger shops.

Any more info on PJ? Is he independent, mobile or part of a shop?
Not being on the cape I need as much info as I can get before having the boat dropped off.

Nauset Marine is great. Wont let anyone else touch my Merc Verado. top notch mechanics. Not sure who had a bad experience there but saying someone you know has a dog that ate my homework and his owner had a bad time at Nauset is lame. Be specific and first hand or lay off the keyboarding internet rumor mill. A non certified tech without the laptop and sw should be avoided-good luck diagnosing a modern OB engine without those! Kudos to your marina for being honest on that.

I had/still have a 2005 merc verado 140 hours when bought in 2008 that non Merc Vrod certified South Carolina mechanics and marina f*cked up, and it was not running right throttling back (had a cracked ground/wiring harness was spliced poorly at that and tucked out of sight on engine/ in egenral a bunch of weirdness that is hard to debug without the laptop and sw) when I bought my seacraft in 23 SC about 5 years ago. Compression good, I made the purchase anyhow and took a bit of risk. Nauset had it squared away in no time at all. Like a couple days plus some parts needed to correct the hacked wiring harness amon. In the height of the season. I am a small fry 23 seacraft plenty of bigger boats in that shop and they treat me like a king every time.

In fact Nauset and Merc worked out a purchase of a new XD lower unit and my engine is 5 years off warranty(ran out 2008). They took care of me at wholesale cost, this season, since my 2005 LU gave up. In fact I even got a loaner LU unit to run when it happened last season! Can't be happier with Nauset. Sure they are pricey, but totally efficient techs, but so is every marina $$. They are cheaper than my girlfriends Mercedes dealer :).

If your in Dennis I would not bother with the Chatham drive, and Outermost is small compared to Nauset all things being equal, it is the busy time now as well.

Your welcome to PM me for my cell if you want me to recommend a specific mechanic(s) at Nauset.

Josh- I agree with Nauset, bought my whaler thru them site on seen and was very happy, everything was as stated, in fact I never saw the boat for 8 months. Sent it to them last year to service the engine, once again I was not there, service guy was right on the spot with the estimate, timing and getting it done. When I saw the boat several weeks later I was very happy with how it ran. My mercury will definitely go there again.

Nauset Marine is almost entirely Mercury. They have access to Yamaha and ETEC mechanics, but I tend to just have engine service (ETEC) done off season at Eagle Marine.

Good to go where your engine is "King".
