Hey - does anyone have a good suggestion for a decent on the water restaurant that can be reached by boat - e.g. have their own docks for patrons? Looking Western LI sound on either side.
Thanks!

I'll second Louies. Great spot.
Get there a little before or after the normal meal hours or plan to wait a little.
Haven't been there in a while but they used to have a very good dock master.

Northport, LI.
Plenty of restaurants and a few bars as well as shops for the ladies.
Kind of a throwback town. Not upscale but nice.
They have a town pier to tie up to or you can grab a mooring and the launch will take you to town. The town pier is free before 8pm, the launch has a fee.

Prime used to be Co-cos back in the early 90s, volley ball on the sand, big hair girls.
Ahh back in the day.
May have to check out that Tiki place at Rye beach.
I have fished down that way, but haven't checked out the town.

You can tie up to the town dock in Mamaroneck and walk to some great restaurants.

Northport LI (I live here)
As someone who hates the wine/dine aspect of boating (even when I take the girlfriend for a sunset cruise I always make a few casts somewhere) Northport has a great night life. If you want expensive huntington harbor (just west of northport) prime is awesome. Northport has a town dock you can tie up to.
If "PJ" is the dockmaster who ties you up, sell him you're friends with Bill (I can PM you my last name) I've known him since I was an infant and we fish together.
The "Bistro" is a nice bar to drink, never had food their. Across the street feed and grain has a good lobster special Monday/Tuesday (11.99 with mussels) Wine room for fancy wines. Harbor Trading for candy and kids toys. Stay out of "Gunthers Tap room" as it is where all the locals hang out (kind of a cool place though) Plenty of ice cream shops to choose from, along with sushi, hot dogs, bar food, seafood.
If you also want drive ALL the way back into northport harbor (Stay in middle of channel low tide is LOW. Britannia yacht club has "Whales tale" really great taco's!
Northport gets pretty busy on the weekends so getting a spot on the dock may be a pain.
If you're looking to fish, let me know

The Black Duck Cafe in Westport has tie ups and marine services too.
Only been there by land though....right under the 95 bridge.

Thanks for the tips - we did stop at the town dock years ago and have that on the list, and the walk along the main street and dinner were great when we were there last.
We had a few "climbing challenged" folks in the group, so I was a little apprehensive about that - i.e. the ladders - low tide was around 4:30 PM Sunday.
I fish a little around the OB outside the channel, and some of the reefs southeast of there, but if there are some secret spots :o around Northport, I'm always looking for places to prospect.

Marino's on the Bay in Port Washington. They just opened about a month ago, but in my opinion, much better than Louies and not as far. Hubby and I used to go to Louies twice a weekend during the summer, until they changed the management and the menu. I hear there is a new restaurant in Manhasset Bay, where the old Steamboat was, but have not checked it out. Oyster Bay also has a few restaurants, you can grab a mooring, call the launch and walk into town. As others have said Northport has a few restaurants and bars within walking distance. Tikki bar (Pier Restaurant) in Rye is nice and they have a rocking Friday happy hour, but watch the approach, very rocky. Crabshell in Stamford is nice, but they charge for docking and space fills up quickly. Port Jefferson is another nice town with a few restaurants within walking distance.

Water's Edge is the current incarnation of Steamboat Landing in Hempstead Harbor. They just opened two weeks ago, big outdoor patio, etc. View overlooking Brewer Marina at Glen Cove.
