Marine Electronics Forum - transducer ?

Bought a used boat proline 251 W/a came with a through hull transducer not sure what model no tag on cable but it says airmar c-32 on cable . Cable has been cut so I bought an airmar splicing boxing and spliced in my garmin 740s cable (6pin) the transducer has one extra wire it is a bare wire all others matchup by color when I power up the unit it says transducer not conected sonar off it did come on for about a minute and shut off again any help would be appreciated

Are you saying you bought the boat with an unknown transducer in it already.

And then you added the Garmin 740s yourself ?..or was the 740s already in the boat?

In that case ...

Being that you do not know what manufacturer the transducer was originally intended to be used with.... then here is this to consider.

If that transducer was not made for a Garmin sonar originally you cannot just connect color for color to a Garmin.

Clean the transducer and check for model numbers...that will really help.

Or can you call the previous owner and see what sonar he was using?

I did get the sonar to work but it shuts off after a miute or to and it tells me transducer not conected

Best to be on the safe side and see what ducer you have.
