Trucks & Trailers - Ordering tires online

Hey guys.. i know when you purchase certain items online or out of state you can avoid paying sales tax. Does anyone know if this is also true for tires? Mainly interested in purchasing offline?

I've bought a bunch of tires from www.tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com)

I do have to pay tax though as they have a warehouse in CT.

I just bought a couple of trailer tires from tirerack.com. The tires shipped from Delaware to me in Maryland and I paid no sales tax. But I did pay about $23 to ship the tires, which is about equal to the sales tax I would have paid if I bought them locally.

I've bought several sets of racing tires for my car online but that's because I can't get what I want locally.......shipping tends to "equal" sales tax.

When purchasing any items online, tires included, the business will only charge you your States sales tax only if they have Nexus(presence/location) in your state. Now of course if your state has a sales tax, it most likely has a Use tax. Use tax is the tax we as individuals are supposed to submit to the state for the cost of our Merchandise when we order a taxable item from someone who is not authorized/did not collect sales tax from us, I know we all do that :).

I've bought four or five sets of tires from discount tire direct, have never payed tax and without looking at there website I believe they have free shipping, (usually just means its built into the price). No tax though, even when shipped to Taxachussets!!

I found a pretty good deal on some Toyo AT tires. They are 325 65 18 tires which equate into about a 35x13x18... the only draw back is that they are D load and only rated for 50PSI. They have a load capacity of 3195lbs.

Do you guys think they will be sufficent for the truck (2011 F250 6.7)? Also what is involved in getting the tire pressure stuff reset? Do you have to have new sensors for the new wheels or can the original ones be re-used and reset?

Most places here started refusing to put them on if u didn't buy from them at their absurd prices. Bikes and cars included. Either that or they would just gouge you on the install.

Example on one of my trucks everyone wants $975 a tire at tire stores. My guy sold them & installed them to me for $650. [Internet was $650] Find someone you can trust and be loyal to them. even if you can save $10 staying loyal & local goes a long way.

Bingo. I bought online 3-4 times and saved $3-400 a set. I would take them to the same place to have them installed. The last time I pulled in with 4 tires in the bed, he asked what I was paying. I told him and said he would match that the next time around. I just got a whole new set of 275/60/20s for $748 OTD.

Online tire buyer here also. Tirerack. No taxes in Mich, but with shipping probably not much cheaper than buying local after install/balance.
Do love their comparison survey guide! Check it out. Takes the mystery of what tires to buy away. Also, the tires you get are fresh with very recent build dates (last 4 numbers in the serial number are week/year).
Usually buying performance tires. Got to pay to play.

Treaddepot.com has some of the lowest prices. Though I have never bought from them there are many places that will match them. I got my last 4 sets of toyo mts from discount tire in ocala. Great service and beat all online prices out the door w warranty.

Finally got the tires on today. Ended up going with BFG AT 275 65 20 tires. Sorry about the quality of the pictures. They were taken with my cell.

I buy online from tirerack and have them drop ship them to the local tirerack approved shop. This way you have no issues with mounting/balancing and I don't have to transport the tires.

I'll never buy tires online again. Not worth the hassle of lugging the dam things around. What do you do if one of your tires fails? Who's gonna mount/balance them for you? Do you take your own food to a restaurant?

If you are so cheap that you have to buy online to save a couple bucks then go for it. If you really can't get them locally, that's a different story.

Saved over $400 on wife's run flats. Bought from Tirerack.com and had local shop put them on for $25 each. They tried to tell me they would have fixed any flats for free....had I bought the tires from them.

I always give the local guys a chance to match or even come close. Just put a set of Michelin's on the truck and saved $200 using Tirerack.com - ordered on Monday, delivered on Tuesday and installed that afternoon.

Guys just for your info.. i did buy local. But believe it or not local guys price match. I was just trying to find my best deal so I could have the local shop match my price. They advised me to do this. I am not too "cheap" to pay for tires but I am also not to lazy to do research and find my best deal. I have always been told that if you live like you have no money then you will always have money. Think about that.

They have approved installers in your area. The install prices are quoted as well. Tires are dropped shipped.

I've done two sets of tires this way and it was a perfect experience. No hidden costs or surprises.

Double07 I didnt get the 18" tires. Had I have gotten those I would have also gotten some aftermarket 18" wheels.
