Hi guys!

I am from Croatia and yesterday i boughty this beutiful Bayliner from 2003.
There is one problem. They put on boat non-original propeller.Boat cant go over 18 miles
on full speed of engine. And other things is that they must deliver me trim flaps becouse old one are broken.
Can anyone tell me what is the original propeller for this engine and is it possible to go normaly without that flaps?
What is the normal speed for this boat ?

Thanks!

Congratulations on the new boat. It doesn't matter what size prop the boat came with. What is important is, what prop you need based on how you load the boat.

These little merc diesels don't like to overloaded. The engine manual should tell you how many rpms the engine should make at wide open throttle when the boat is fully loaded.

That means full of fuel, people and whatever else you bring with you when you go boating.

If the engine only gets 3200 rpms when it's supposed to get to 3600 rpms, you need to put a smaller prop on the boat. One that is smaller than what is on the boat now.

I would fix the trim tabs before addressing the prop. The boat might need the trim tabs to get on plane and maintain the proper ride angle.

Don't be so concerned about speed. Be concerned about making that little diesel live a long life. Run it easy.

Thanks dude!
I realy think that problem is in trim tabs.Propeller is with 4 blades wich is ok but i think that must be smaller diameter and diferent pich.
I want to be able to make speed about 20 mph with optimal rpm of engine ( 2 people and almost full tank of fuel).I read on internet about this engine and they write that optimal speed is about 22 mph and max sped will be 34 mph.

I own the same boat, same engine.

The original prop that this boat left the factory with is a Black Max 14,5 x 19 x 3.

I still run that prop. Recommended RPM range for this engine is 4000 - 4400 at WOT. I am getting 4200, with two guys and half a tank of fuel. I cruise at 3300 RPM and that gets me 18 kts. I don't know max speed, I never go WOT because it is known that this engine does not like overloading. At the start of each year I try WOT to see if I get to the 4200 RPM and then I never go there again.

Tabs I use to level port and starboard or trim the nose down when the chop gets bigger. For normal use, the boat does not need tabs.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for info!

Today i put prop 14,25 X 19 X 3 but when i go WOT engine reach only 3400 rpm.
Max speed i reach is only 17 knot on WOT.Is maybe problem in turbo charger?
I dont know what else can be;?

Obviously there is a problem in that engine.

The turbo kicks in at around 2000 rpm and you can clearly hear the turbo whistle so it is easy to verify if it works or not.

Can't offer much else, think you need to bring in a mechanic.

Found problem.Valve on turbo was opened all time and all pressure go out.
My friend fixed the valve and now is ok.:)

Hi guys!

It past lots of time from my last post.In this period i make some change on my Trophy.
I put different engine:Mercruiser (VM) 2,8 Turbo Diesel D-tronic 165 hp and another stendrive
(Bravo 1 with 1.36:1 ratio).
Engine is realy great but there is one big problem.I think that this stendrive ratio is not ok becouse engine cant engage WOT (3800 rpm).It reach only 1800 rpm.I try to put some different propelers but nothing.
I find one stendrive(Bravo 2 with 1.81:1 ratio) and that seller need my stendrive to make change. Is this ratio good for this engine becouse max rpm is 3800?
Old Alpha 1 stendrive was 2.0:1 but max engine rpm was 4400.

Don't know about required gear ratio's but would be interested in performance data after the change is completed. Could you post speed / fuel burn numbers?
