Guys:
I see these things all the time on I-12/10 headed westbound and today was the first opportunity that I had to snap a picture. My apologies for the poor quality.
The portion of it in the picture has a large shelf-like extension and the other side (not visible) has a huge opening approximately a yard or more in diameter with a metal cover and tons of bolts holding it in place. I suspect it is used in the energy industry but really have no clue.
I believe the collective wisdom of THT will enlighten me quickly...
Finally, to make this boating related, this thing looks bouyant but perhaps a little tippy.

I have wondered what they were myself. I see them mostly on I 12. They have only 1 Hatch looking thing at the top

no its not, but kinda, they are made here in Grenville thats just a pod to carry a turbine (gas i believe) made at the local GE factory. i am pretty sure its for power generation plants
I saw them everyday on I-85 headed north from there factory

It is the generator unit for a wind turbine. They are all over the place here in Texas.

Yup housing for wind mill generator. I have seen these things going down I-10 for years wasn't until about a few years ago I figured it out.
