That is truly neat
I remember hitching a ride on one while scuba diving in John Pennecamp Park Key Largo
I see that you are numbering them. Are you also tagging them with a monitoring device?

Yeah, everybody gets metal flipper tags and an implanted PIT tags (like the vet puts in your dog). And the adult males get a fancy GPS sattelite tracking tag. The painted numbers are just a temporary mark so we don't chase them again later that day or on the same trip - it wears off in about a week.

They're butt deep here on the East Coast..........We have too many, they're moving up into our Sounds and destroying our Crabbing Gear.....Please keep your turtles in the Gulf.............

Heres what they do to a Crabpot....They try to bite the crabs right through the wire....We try to move to get away from them, since the pots cost about $40 each rigged up....

Ah, I see.
Why don't you keep your traps out of the way of my boat. I hate it when I get tangled up and have to cut the line on your $40 trap.

The ocean is the turtles home, quit bitching that they tear up your traps if your in their territory. That's not real fishing anyway.

Well it sure as hell seems like your bitching.. my 21ft proline has been on fishing adventures well beyond what it was designed for. 60-70 miles worth of blue water fishing "rod and reel". Let's hear yours how turtles break into your 40 dollar traps.

And never tell people how bad you are in a 21ft rig.....People that know better will think your simple....... And you'll be turtle food someday.......
BTW, If you think your a good fishermen, quit your job and make a living fishing...Have a Great Day.....;?

Uh not really, fishing imo isn't setting traps. I'm not to impressed with people calling setting traps fishing either.. the only thing that's turtle food would be the crabs in your traps. Ask the old guys what they had before their big boats and what they used back in the day for offshore fishing. Just because someone has a small boat and pushes their limits, doesn't make them any less of a fisherman.. we come home as well as they do, bring home the same fish, just not as comfortable.. we arent stupid.
Have a good day.

I asked 4 old men, they all agreed............21ft Proline was the beast in the 1930's...........Saving turtles is great If you feel all warm and fuzzy inside...But the East Coast has a Large Population of em...The Beachs on the Outer Banks are being shut down by the US Government to fishermen...Mostly Rec Fisherman...You can't even walk on the beaches in many places..People are losing their businesses and Homes because of the Closures...Turtles and Piping Plovers drive people crazy here on the Outer Banks....
And thats all I have to say about that!
Be safe Proline16..Catch em up:thumbsup:
Im kind of fond of the turtles........cuz they keep good company such as Cobia.....

Did you mean "their" ocean?
Tell them to stay the **** in the ocean and they won't bother me, the rec folks on the other hand may be concerned.
The tree and turtle huggers are changing lifestyles in Eastern NC, and the commercial guy is NOT the only casualty.
But, carry on... until YOUR boat is no longer welcome.

You ever think that you may be changing the turtle's lifestyle? You have settled that land for what, 200-300 years? Turtle's got a few million on ya.

Food chain my friend. If the turtle was smart enough he would win.
But I'm sure you are all welcoming to the alligator in downtown N.O.

You lost me? Why because my boat can sink just as fast as any other boat? Because you know so much and how we run our boat? I'm sorry the turtles that are 100+ years old are eating your crabs that are in THEIR ocean/habitat.

Seems to me the turtles are winning, they are eating the crab from your trapps right?
if you were really smart you would have "turtle proof" traps ;cool;
