I had a handwritten note left on my door Friday because my six year old left his red wagon by the front door. I'm thinking I might leave a big steamy one on the neighborhood nazi's hood.

I will translate this so the gravity of the situation can be understood;
a band of wild hogs has done significant damage to numerous yards = Some elderly lady got her flower bed trampled..
The Board of Directors has engaged the services of a skilled trapper to remove the hogs =Found a guy named Jimbo at Walmart and he had a pin in the back of his truck. Jimbo and the BOD agreed on the terms for a case of Natural Light to remove said hogs.
Initial attempts to catch the hogs using cages have been disappointing =Jimbo got too drunk to catch the rest of the hogs.
the trapper will now utilize trained dogs to capture the hogs = Jimbo's gonna get the pit bulls this time.
Be advised that the trappers and dogs will be working in the woods behind Sequoia and Mammoth THIS SATURDAY EVENING = LOOK OUT! Jimbo is a drunken crazy SOB!
and the effort should be concluded within a few hours thereof = The BOD has decided to hold Jimbo's additional payment of Natural Light until he finishes the job and puts the pit bulls away...

I wish more people would get this. If enough people don't want to move to an area with a HOA,it will be seen as undesirable to have one. Once it's seen as undesirable to have one, it will lower thier property values relative to others. Once that happens, the HOA's will disappear.
People forget that the original reason for them was to keep everyone playing by a certain set of rules in an effort to keep home values UP. Once enough people decide they don't want one, they will lose their power.
Or you could just go ahead and buy into one, and then bitch about it, which will make you miserable and they will continue to get away with it.

I'm certainly no fan of HOAs, and made sure that my house in Maryland didn't have one, but I just don't see the problem with this notice.
Feral pigs are a growing problem in many places, and are destructive and dangerous. These are not cute little piglets they're talking about. Shooting them in a housing development doesn't seem a great idea, and trying to trap and cage them didn't work, so they brought in a trapper with trained dogs. Sounds fine to me. If the board DIDN'T act, there would be an even bigger stink from the residents. What's the problem?
I would pay good money to GET my previous house into a HOA.
Bought it while the neighborhood was going up - great neighbors who were out every weekend taking care of their places, lots of tree cover, nice influx of "decent" people, lots of remodeling, house flipping, general neighborhood improvement going on... 9 years, 3 hurricanes, and a recession later...
One neighbor decided he was tired of cleaning up leaves so leveled everything taller than a blade of grass (which is 4-10 inches, depending on when he feels like paying his lawn guy) on his property.
The other neighbor whose house and yard was his pride and joy, sold at the height of the bubble - since then at least 2 owners (both appeared to be mortgage scams) 7 different tenants including an actual drug dealer, now today 3 cars parked on the lawn (one at a 30 degree angle, since 2 tires are on the driveway and two a foot lower in grass) and yard completely overgrown.
One house across the street went under construction 4 years ago and owners ran out of money, so it's unfinished concrete block with many notices from the city slapped on the front door.
Another neighbor has boat, 2 trucks, and a car under a ripped up cover in his driveway.
So just remember, every time you bitch your HOA - it is keeping your neighbors in line more than you can imagine. I'm down about $20k on my property value due strictly to my neighbors not giving a crap about what their houses look like, on top of the market's decline.

Unfortunately, there is always a jerk or two that don't mind living in a pig-sty, with junk cars on blocks in the yard, etc. That is why HOA's came about. I hate em. Moved to a place that doesn't have one and after being here since 1999, I was just informed there is a HOA. They swear I signed a form acknowledging that at closing but I never saw it. Fortunately, for now, they have a single purpose for existing which I don't mind.

That's some funny stuff.
I had a situation earlier this year with mine. We have a very loosely formed HOA in the hood. My fees are only a few hundred per year and it's just to take care of common areas. There are no real tight rules and usually don't even hear anything. But as usual, the board is made up of wanna-be's...talk about a power trip.
In late January I got a letter from the HOA stating there had been some "vandalism" in the neighborhood park which they reported to the sheriff's office. They said that a resident witnessed by 12 yr old son cutting down bamboo in the park. The resident asked him what he was doing and told him to stop, which he did. They referenced this happened on Dec. 12th. They went on to say that this will not be tolerated and that they have contacted a landscaping company and want to be reimbursed $500. The also said that my failure to do this will result in them contacting the Sheriff again and reporting him as the vandal.
This was the very first time I was notified of any of this, no calls, no one came by and talked to me about it, NOTHING. I also found out they had discussed this, including the allegations against my son by name at the HOA meeting in mid-Jan without my knowledge.
Needless to say, I was furious. I asked my son and his friend separately what had happened and he told me him and four buddies cut down a couple of bamboo shoots to play with and each of them showed me where it took place. He was not the only one doing it. It was barely noticeable and there were about 500 shoots planted all along the side of a pond. They were clearly wrong and I told him never to do it again and he won't.
Not only did these A-holes confront my 12 year old, but did NOT contact his parents to discuss this matter. Plus they called the police and then threatened me with reporting him for vandalism!!! I then found out that someone (a guy in the neighboorhood) had dug up an entire clump of bamboo and carted it off to his yard, and I actually witnessed this and remembered it after the fact, along with two other neighbors. I went to his house and took pictures of the bamboo planted in his backyard.
Apparently, they assumed my kid had done all the damage without finding out all the facts. I called the president and she was a total a$$hole about it, she obviously didn't know the full story and wouldn't fully discuss it with me. I talked to another board member and explained the full story and that they were WAY out of line for pulling this stunt. It really made me upset, especially the fact they had threatened my son. Not a single one of them called me and apologized. Complete bunch of scumbags.

...But as usual, the board is made up of wanna-be's...talk about a power trip...
The problem usually is that the HOA board is made up of the few people in the association who are willing to take the job. Must people are content to sit on their hands, let "someone else" do it, and then feel free to whine and complain about what is or isn't being done. If you're unhappy with the way the board is handling things, then run for it. You'll get elected, most likely, and then you can try to change things to your own liking. Like public office politicians, those people are there because other people don't run for the job, or even bother to vote.
the key to living in an HOA is read the rules. then figure out how to make them pay for two years of boat storage. read the rules and have fun. I do everyday.

What do you say to the people who DID read the rules, bought, and then find out that the rules are only applied to certain people and then abused at every turn (used to torture and harass people that don't agree to let them spend money that they shouldn't spend so their buddies can get contracts at inflated prices)???????????????????????

When i moved in i temporarily parked my motorhome (not run down or dirty) in the driveay for a few days until i could find a storage place for it. THe second we moved in i found a hand written letter on the steps of the Motorhome ordering it me to remove it or incurre fines. guess who wrote the note and is also president of our Local HOA. So true!
wild hogs can do an unbelievable amount of damage .......In just one night they can destroy an acre of wheat, soybeans, corn, peanuts......
if you ever see what they can tear up in one night
you'll be out there with Jimbo helping catch them wild muthas
It is just insane that we have become such a pussified society that the HOA just can't issue a letter saying that they are going to shoot the freaking things.
shoot one and 3 more takes it's place, so shooting them only helps a little, plus they are nocturnal and breed like crazy......every 115 days the sow has a litter and then in 6 months her piglets are reproducing
you cannot get rid of wild hogs unless you trap them
they multiply real fast
the local farmers have lots of traps set and work year round trying to thin the hawgs out

HOAs may server a purpose, but 99% of them suck and are run by clowns that never had the opportunity to run anything else in there life. HOAs are power trip breeding grounds.
and.....why wouldn't a bullet for each hog, costing a few pennies take care of this issue?
because you can't ever kill them all............
because you can't ever kill them all............
So how is trapping them different?
So how is trapping them different?
you set a multiple large traps with bait and catch multiple offenders while they feed nocturnal, catch the momma factory hawgs and slow down the reproduction
all
while you sleep.....Zzzzzzz
back a trailer up to the trap/pen
load em up and haul em off live to butcher or feed them out for awhile
shooting one at a time is not efficient at all, traps will never get them all unless you are dedicated to the cause
they can roam for miles and miles every night and do tons of damage
The HOA pigs are another story

Isn't this thread about the HOA pigs?;? Regardless if you shoot or trap the HOA pigs the end result is the same. I don't get how 3 more HOA pigs will take their place like you said. Regardless if you trap or shoot the HOA piggies the end result is the same. Why would 3 more pigs take the place of a pig that was shot but not a pig that was trapped?
my point is the pigs will take over the hood and dig up the entire hood
shooting them is not an effective way to get rid of them, dogs are not either
traps are the best option, catch more and kill more, slows them down faster
115 day gestation
litters of 10-15 piglets
the piglets breed at 6 months, so at the end of a year one sow = about 200 more
So, you cannot shoot the entire factory........ever, even with bait and night vision
if you ever get a wild hawg problem.....you have a big big problem

Possibly, but not usually. Hog hunting with dogs usually consists of "bay" dogs and "catch" dogs. The bay dogs will run and then "bay" the hog. Once the hog is bayed, there will be one or more "catch" dog/s sent to catch the hog, holding the hog until the hunting person or party can get to the hog. Catch dogs are usually bulldogs of various bloodlines and are trained to go "toe-to-toe" with wild hogs. Granted, at times, if the owner/s do not have a decent understanding of medical interventions, vet bills can get to be expensive hog hunting with dogs.
It is just insane that we have become such a pussified society that the HOA just can't issue a letter saying that they are going to shoot the freaking things.

Depends on what you're shootin'.;)
But I agree, multiple, well made, well placed traps would be the most efficient way to decrease a growing hog problem. Good traps can catch several at a time where usually hog hunting with dogs is one at a time....I've caught as many as 20+ in one trap.
I think HOA Pigs was a reference to HOA's in general not necessarily the pigs in the OP's neighborhood.

We have hunted hogs with dogs and swamp buggy and the prevalent breed is normally some sort of Cur dog mix. I should dig up some videos of the dogs doing exactly what was described above.... the hogs will normally run to water or end up pinned against some trees or bushes. The dogs are more likely to get shot that hurt by the hog, but it can happen.
