I have seen some websites offering beacons or small chem lights that you can add to the lure for trolling at night. They are not available locally to my knowledge. We are leaving Pensacola Sat night around 10p and will be trolling 5-6 kts out 22 miles to the Oriskany (aircraft carrier in 200ft of water) and then further south to we get to the edge (ledge that drops from 200 ft to 600ft+). We will get to the edge just before sunrise. We are targeting wahoo, dolphin and I won't feel bad if a marlin or tuna takes a bite. Question is: Can I take a regular chem light and and just tape it to the leader in front of the lure? Any particular type of lure at night I should use?
This is my first post and I appreciate all the knowledge shared here.
Thanks

Welcome to THT :tht_rulez:
I have used lights when drift fishing at night, but not for trolling.
I am sure you will get an answer to your question.

Thanks I will throw the spreader lights on while drifting over the aircraft carrier. Did I mention this was from a 36ft sailboat? It works well for trolling. The 2 cyl Yamar gets 1 gallon per hour at 7 kts!

ESCAs work. They are tiny and make a mighty tiny flash but it can be seen from an incredible distance in dark, clear water. I've used them in squid skirts at night for Blackfins and Yellowfins. They also work great for night time Snapper fishing.
Check out the ESCA web site.

Zip tie the chem light under the skirts. Mold craft makes a few glow lures.

I experimented with Lite-N-Glow lures back during the late 1980s and early 1990s, dragging them in full-darkness an hour or so before daybreak. I only recall one fish falling to them, a nice 200+ lb bigeye tuna, though we did experience a few knockdowns.
