I think a summary of Bahamas coverage that Charter Lakes has available would be a great topic here, and very probably one that would help you pick up new customers.
I'm currently insured by Progressive, and the best information I've been able to get from them is that they do not offer coverage beyond 125 miles from the US coast. I may not have the terminology or details exactly right, but the intent is correct. This limits where I choose to spend my annual vacations.
There have been several threads over the years suggesting that Progressive offers coverage beyond 75 miles, but I've had no luck confirming that with them. Local Progressive agents have told me they can't talk to me because I'm an Internet customer.
So, again, this year my Progressive policy is expiring. Before renewing I'd like to shop around some to see what's available elsewhere, and Bahamas coverage is important to me. Beyond including this coverage in a basic policy, do you offer a short term rider that can be purchased to include Bahamas coverage on a policy that does not include it otherwise?
The questions that seem to come up most often typically involve boat size, equipment required, distance from CONUS that coverage is provided, towing options and who provides service?
So maybe a summary here for everyone, and a recommendation as to who at Charter Lakes I should contact? I'm a Louisiana resident.
Thank you!

Hi Bigger Hammer

Sorry for the delayed response here - Appreciate the suggestion

Progressive is really a program for small boat insurance (http://www.charterlakes.com/boat-insurance/small-boat-insurance) though they will insure 40 foot yachts in some areas. They are the only ones restricting vessels to 125 miles off the US Coast to get the Bahamas coverage that I am aware of. We have multiple A+ rated marine insurance (http://www.charterlakes.com/) companies that we represent that offer coverage for most of the Bahamas down to 24 degrees north latitude, and others that offer all Bahamas and the Caribbean as well. It really depends on the size and type of vessel as to what Bahamas limits are available. Most companies prefer twin engines and at least 30 feet. They may approve smaller boats by individual case and they may warrant that they must travel with at least 2 other vessel when crossing.

What is your vessel manufacturer, length and what are the engines?

Thanks

Mark

Thanks for the response,Mark. The delay was no problem, I've been in contact with Judi. If you'd like to keep this going with the intent of trying to show what Charter Lakes offers for a boat the size of mine my boat is a 2002 31' Contender FishAround, with twin 2002 Yamaha F225's.
