What the hell is with that? Anyone else notice a lot of basketball players dressing like "nerds" now?

Plaid pants, sweater vests, bow ties, pocket protectors and stupid ass big thick glasses.

A few times I saw Wade and James wearing almost identical stupid looking outfits. I guess it's not cool anymore for multi millionaire basketball players to wear Versace and Armani and diamond encrusted Rolex watches?

better than looking like allen iverson. that look (although faux geeky) plus holding their children and kissing their mothers is good for humanity. it sends the right signals (again, compare allen iverson).

that's a great video.

btw, i sat first row on the floor at a miami heat game at the old arena when they played against iverson's team (washington???). he was a bit shorter than 6 feet tall, but dominated the game from the outside and inside driving to the basket. an absolute beast of a player with gigantic balls. his "person" is another story.

I dont see anything wrong with it...;? People complain about hip hop thugs wearing baggy pants, tall tees, straight brim hats, and wife beaters. Then when they wear something that can be considered respectable, they get shit again. I think this outfit can actually transcend to the younger generations and maybe make a positive difference....

To your typical white person, black guys look less threatening and smarter with glasses...

What's wrong with it? It's a lie. It's a phony attempt to appear to be something you are not. It's not like the only two choices are baggy pant thugs or faux intellectual. How about just being a normal person. Michael Jordan showed how. Larry Bird showed how. Many NBA players and other professional athletes have managed to avoid both gangsta and phony Urkel.

Who gets to define a normal person? Not to start a debate...cuz I really dont care but I personnally think that most people wearing Salt Life apperal are fake. Most people around here that wear this gear have no idea how to fish. Why cant they just wear normal clothing....?

For example.... An uneducated NBA player wearing intellectual gear is similar to a weekend warrior buisness professionalwho has no idea how to fish showing up to the dock in his brand new boat with Academy combos and "bobbers" with a salt life t shirt and their boga grip. Neither one bother me and I dont see why it is a big deal. However, I do think people that wear baggy pants, tall tees, and wife beaters are thugs who are in some way involved in the criminal justice system.

x2 it was Fonzworth that started the entire dressing like a nerd. He(fonzworth) got his job as the umbrella holder for Sean "Puff Daddy,Puffy, P-diddy,Diddy" Combs. Kayne West ran with it and now everyone else is running with it. Oh by the way I am white just have a bunch of 2yr old workig for me so thats what they are into.

I agree, what is normal?

FTR it isn't nerdy, it's hipster. Take a stroll through "Old Town" and stop by the local indie coffee shop and you'll see all kind of kids dressed the same way. While you're there stop by Urban Outfitters, the hipster mecca.

I don't mind it all, there have been much shittier fashion trends than this one and if I remember correctly the NBA guys starting doing it as a joke, mocking Russel Westbrook's fashion sense.

Just cool down a bit dude. Its' a FORUM - a MESSAGE BOARD - the things we chat about are the things we chat about. No one says it's "such a big deal" and I hate it when folks use that "whats the big deal" argument - which is a whiny admission one is out of ideas.

To answer your question, the NBA example and the weekend warrior example are both laughable. I think they are both stupid. If you can't figure out a middle ground, then I feel sorry for you. But again, it's not "such a big deal." Its just internet chat. Chill.

If I was black, I'd wear intellectual glasses all the time - because I would be tired of white people thinking I was a criminal or thug.

Pop on those specs and - boom - all of a sudden white people would remark what a "trustworthy" and "articulate" man I was.

If Trayvon Martin was wearing a bow tie and nerdy glasses - instead of a hoody - he's likely hanging out at a swimming pool and eating a hot dog for lunch today.
