I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but figured you guys could help. I'm currently looking into building a roof over my boat and adding a boathouse style lift to my lakehouse. The roof would be roughly 24' long and 14' wide.

The requirements on my lake state that I need to make the legs for any kind of roof using 6x6's. I can easily get 6x6x12 supports at Home Depot or Lowes but I don't have any idea where to get anything longer. A 12 ft support is acceptable provided I don't sink the supports down to the bed rock.

The question I have is; Can I put the posts on a concrete foot instead of sinking them into the dirt? I think this would make my install massively easier. The ground is semi soft and my current Hewitt free standing lift is using the foot method to support it but it obviously isn't as big or heavy.

I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to that as we don't build boat houses. However I can get you in touch with a local builder if you would like to discuss this with them? I think this would probably be your best bet as someone local will be more familiar with your scenario. Call or email me with the informaion so that I can further assist & thanks for contact us!
