Left the dock on a 33 Bertram, Leprechaun, headed towards the AP. Nothing, no bait no nothing. Headed north and around 7PM we got our only knockdown that ended in a 50 pound class Bluefin. The hit came on one of custom 9 inch squid bars. The color was pink and white with a blue and white stinger.

They crushed them close to you!!!! The off-shore edge of the Slough...A few miles from Little Italy.... I know 3 boats that had between 20 and 25 between 25 and 40 pounds....plus lots of Fat-Alberts mixed in. Jigs and trolling plastics.... No birds to speak of, and no great marks 95 % of the time.....

I hear you Offshore. We decided to go to the AP. We did an afternoon troll leaving the dock at 2PM. On the way out we talked to a couple of boats coming back from the Chicken. They reported no bait, no fish no nothing. When we got to the AP we found no bait and no boats. After about an hour we started north. We were very lucky to get our fish as seas built. Not a fun ride back. We were trolling a bunch of bars and chains I made for the owner last year. This was their first time in the water. It is always fun to see you stuff catch fish. The baits pulled perfectly even in breaking seas. The bars threw up lots of spray and the chains danced enticingly. We never did find any good bait marks. I sure hope the sand eels move in. Got to get a few more bluefin before the close the season. This weekend is mako. Need some fresh mako in the fridge.
