When are the cops going to do something down here! Watch the video. This guy had a removable tounge and they still stole his boat from his freakin' front yard!!! What's it going to take - a thief getting shot? I'm all for it!!

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Jerry Turiello spent his whole life saving for his dream boat, only to have it taken from him while he was asleep.

"The front hitch of the trailer has been removed by me, to prevent a theft," said Turiello.

The hitch is about the only piece Turiello is left with of his 30-foot boat, "Donzi." On Wednesday, Turiello woke up to find his estimated $160,000 dollar retirement gift to himself had vanished from his front yard.

"I feel violated. I feel like I just had my legs cut off," said Turiello.

A surveillance camera from a neighbor reveals a truck, Turiello believes is involved, driving toward his home just after 2 a.m. Wednesday. The boat owner said the thieves went as far as bringing tools, and a hitch. Turiello said the thieves also had to have a mechanic to install the gear.

A few hours later, the footage shows Turiello's boat rolling down the street.

"When you can come in front of somebody's house on their property with a mechanic and start bolting a trailer together and another truck with another guy flashing lights and pull your stuff away, you know it's out of hand," said Turiello.

The Palm Beach Gardens resident filed a report with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office which told Turiello he was the fourth stolen boat case in the past few weeks. A frequency of thefts that is now rattling the core of the neighborhood.

"It's a very nice neighborhood. It took me a long time to get here, but the robberies, my God. I'm afraid to go to sleep at night," said Turiello.

PBSO spokesperson Teri Barbera said there are not any leads on the stolen boat. Investigators said the marine detective on the case has managed to return two of the four boats that have been stolen in the past two weeks in the neighborhood where Turiello lives.

I saw that item this morning and while I think it sucks to have something stolen, I wouldn't go so far as to blame the cops for these things happening. What would you have them do, stake out every boat in the north end of the county?

The best thing you can do is put up as many barriers to theft as possible but like this guy found out, if they want it bad enough, they will find a way to get it.

Guess I'm a little calloused as I had my motors stolen 2x last year in Jupiter. The second time, no detective ever even looked into my case. The bad guys know this and roam the Jupiter PBG area in search of boats, motors and lower units. Why? They are never caught. Like I said - just a rant...

Costs of living in paradise, with meth heads, scam artists, psycho's, lousy drivers, exhoribitant insurance and tax costs, I95, party animals and drunks.

Jupiter is the only place I have ever had fishing gear stolen from. :roll

The cops are too busy with shootings and killings. It's a shame that if you booby trap and the thief gets hurt, he sues you. Something wrong with this picture?

See..I'm not the only person on here who thinks our once beautiful area, south Florida, has gone to hell.

Too bad. What a great area just 30 short years ago. Too bad that those in power allowed unchecked development with no concern for the future.

Often the cops are simply overwhelmed.

Hell, we're starting to see the scumbags from Dade county coming all the way up to our area. Used to be small time stuff from Riviera Beach..now it's the professionals from Miami. Stuff disappears to no-mans-land in Dade county and is lost forever...they could hide an aircraft carrier down there and no one would find it!

I've never been to the Jupiter area but always wanted to check it out. It's so sad what has happened to this state. I've lived in Central Florida since 1972 and it has changed sooo much since then.

Gotta do whatever you can to prevent theft, but man if they still want it, they will find a way to take it.

And yet these guys get almost no punishment when caught. There is a story in the Miami Herald today about an 18 yr old being extradited from Indiana because he vandalized a boat in the Keys. Originally the warrant was a Florida pick up but then it was changed so they had the Locals pick him up and send him here.

If you handle everything 'in house' and leave no evidence then there's no crime, right?

I'm admittedly strange but I often find myself fantasizing about what I might do if I found someone infringing on my way of life.

Out of sight out of mind. These scumbags should be thrown in prison but why do people leave boats 5' from the road backed in on trailers in an area well known from these type of thefts?

"Fourth case in the past few weeks" my ass!!! Three weeks ago a group of thieves hit fifteen boats in storage at the west side of the Donald Ross bridge. They didn't take the whole rigs but got engines, lower units, electronics. Four weeks ago a friend of mine missed a tournament because his lower units were stolen the night before, second time this year!!! Drive by a Yamaha dealership and you probably won't see many lower units, either already stolen or removed to keep from being stolen. Coincidentally, there was a rash of these thefts in PB county 5 years ago and the miami based scumbags were caught and got.... four and a half years. Po-po think it's the same guys. Don't be afraid to shoot'em, just be sure to say you thought the wrench was a gun.

Came in through the fence. Cops found paper plates, chicken bones, empty cole slaw containers and plastic forks. These guys are pros and take their time! I used to joke about it, but now maybe it's a good idea - if you have Yamahas paint 'em black and put Mercury stickers on 'em!

I thought FL was one of those "you can use deadly force to protect personal property" type states? ;?

If NOT, then ALL OF YOU BOATERS IN THE STATE need to raise hell with your representatives and GET that law passsed!:nono:

It's CLEAR that it's NOT getting any better and you (your WALLET!) needs to get the lawmakers off their BUTTS, and/or start having folks "commit suicide" while they are stealing your boats!:nono:

PLUS, WHY aren't the dam INSURANCE COMPANIES getting involved with a "deadly force" law or at LEAST lobbying for SOMETHING? ;? Guess their "fix" is just to raise PREMIUMS? :roll

NO ONE is working for YOU - the police either don't have the time or don't care, and the officials are just too fokin' LIBERAL to do what NEEDS to be done?:nono:

GET TO IT or it 'AIN'T gonna' change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :nono:

I had my boat stolen from my driveway about 3 years ago. They were after the Yamaha F150 and rigging. The boat I bought after that mess had a 200 HPDI. I kept it at an indoor storage facility.

I've now gone back in time to a 1999 Johnson 150 two stroke and it is back in the driveway. I doubt there is a big black market for these things.

Maybe there is an opportunity for someone to buy a large vacant warehouse, develop some good access controls and use it as a storage facility. I am inland, but the place I kept my last boat had a good setup and an even better name. www.adulttoystorage.com (http://www.adulttoystorage.com).

Since south florida removed the toll plazas, there is no more line of defense against these guys. They just breeze through the cameras at 3 o'clock in the morning, undeterred. To add insult to injury, you'll get a toll in the mail for your stolen boat.

How much defense does a toll plaza provide?

I doubt many of these boats/motors are going very far, there's plenty of warehouses in Riviera, West Palm, etc. to get things done locally.

Some of you act like there are no thieves in the Palm Beaches, that they all must come up from Dade.

I drive through an industrial area off of Okeechobee every day and at least once a month a stripped boat is sitting on the curb.

Only sure deterrent is to have a motion alarm hidden on the boat. If it moves out of the safe zone, all hell breaks loose in your home, laptop, smart phone, beeper tied to the security system. When and if it goes off, 911 immediately. Tell 'em they have guns. Po-Po be there immediately to cap the creeps. Don't confront the scum bags unless you have a freakin Uzi or an AR15 and know how to use it and protect yourself in the dark.

.

They do come from Dade county..it's well known. Every PD around here knows where they go. do ya think they go down US1 to Riviera Beach? Nope..95 straight to south Dade.

These guys get caught occasionally, and they are always Dade/Broward county guys. The Riviera Beach group breaks into houses.

Usually the thefts are done for the export market. Lots of containers leave miami headed east or south and I'm pretty sure nobody's real interested in inspecting the boxes that are leaving.

I know all too well about this. Here are some facts..

1. Law enforcement is mostly reactive, not proactive.

2. Protect your boats yourselves in any way you can (installing hidden kill switches, chaining the wheels on the trailer, installing a hidden GPS tracking device on the boat, and getting a big dog if you keep your boat in your yard - that actually is pretty effective).

3. Many boat storage places do not maintain their "surveillance systems." many times as a police offcier when I used to answer these calls I would ask for the tapes and 80% of the time I was told they did not actually maintain a recording device, just had the sign and some monitors to attract business.
