This build is going to be interesting. The plan is for Twin 75 HP to be hung off the back of this bayliner. Anyone ever seen a transom rebuilt quite this way?

Many ways I have heard this expression but, it looks like, a carpenter's solution to a boat building problem. I hope he is getting some help (good suggestions) from the forum members on that site? ;?

Is that block in the middle cut short because the engine is a short shaft? Where's our resident Bayliner/Pro-Line expert on this one?

I had to go through that thread to try to make sense of it! They cut the fiberglass out (I think) because they wanted to change the transom angle. Beside the part of using pine planks (or maybe it was a hardwood?) why would you cut out fiberglass? I have replaced a few rotted transoms on small boats and I've always kept the outer glass in and built off that. I just don't know?
Towards the end it starts to look like it might work, definitely not how I would do it.

Two 75 HP Mercs on a 16' Bayliner, with enough lumber and glass in the transom to frame a garden shed. A tad stern heavy maybe? Next step is the helium filled ping pong balls in all the nooks and crannies in the stern to keep it afloat. Can't wait for the launch.

you guys laugh but some of that work is very good. It looks like he is building a strong core to glass in. Kinda like weaving but with thick wood.

The amount of effort to use all the little pieces is what gets me.

When I rebuilt my formula transom I emailed West systems and they sent NE a 5 page PDF of how to do it. I should have just contacted this guy. Would have saved $$$ on the coosa board.

I 'm sure when he floats it, he will just add weight in the bow to level her off.

hell I am not sure it will make it to the water on that sorry ass trailer

150hp on a 17 foot boat (probably not even a full 17 feet) that had a factory 75hp on it......and one of the worst built boats on the planet to top it off

it is too bad they screwed up that nitro by taking the factory engine off of it it looks like a much better boat in much better shape even though nitro is not a top of the line brand either.....but it is no bayliner that is for sure and nothing turns a boat to junk like screwing with the power package unless you are repowering to a newer engine because the old one was worn out

now instead of one decent boat with factory specs and one hunk of total crap there are two boats worth next to nothing floating around out there....well that is if one of them floats after the rebuild

I usually don't think much of the little black and yellow weight and power placard, but in this case I think that bayliner will be getting a lot of attention from the authorities on the water

I shouldn't be like that ..The guy may have a good thing going. I had the 19 foot bayliner some 30 years ago. I had a lake like 2/3 blocks away went sking everyweek end except for the raining ones. It was an inboard and it was a good boat for what I used it for. I always liked going to the gas docks around 3 and watch all the newbie's come in, But still would like to see this take off.....

It's certainly not conventional but I doubt it will break if it's done with decent craftsmanship. The wood looks like poplar. I don't know about it's rot resistance but it can't be a whole lot worse than any other wood, plywood or otherwise. He's basically building a two ply plywood with epoxy glue.

His design concept and choice of platform...;?

You guys can laugh, but I can see this working really well.

I don't know for sure, but that looks like maple from here - 5/4 maple at that. If I am right that transom will end up being 2 1/2" thick worth of very clean maple with probably another 1/2" worth of fiberglass. A 3" think transom I would say should be pretty strong.

I wonder what epoxy he used between the wood pieces? Better yet I hope he used better than epoxy.

I'm sure the transom will hold the twin 70 HP engines and will run OK. He is just running around a lake. As long as the water is smooth and he doesn't stab the throttle too much it will be OK......I think.

But once he starts wake jumping that transom is coming off.

Maybe we should post a link to here on his thread? Hate to see someone do all that work for nothing, I mean with all the money they spent on liquid nail, they could have at least paid for a boat ride with someone!

Pessimists and naysayers....I say it winds up being strong enough to support the power and push the boat. It being a bayliner though, the rest of the hull is liable to fall apart around it.
