Just got a 10 ft 3/8 with 15 pounds of lead from him, I have owned a lot of cheap nets, the difference in a quality net is amazing. Tim is a great guy, he had some supply issues, so I was going to pick it up before I went to the Keys, something came up so he shipped it to the place we were staying in Marathon.
Its an awesome net and the price was cheaper than a calusa by 20%

Its a 5/8" mesh and stretches to 1 1/4".
Still in the bucket and retail was $269. (I think thats probably at least $10. over the norm).
I'll take $210. plus shipping.

Dam, I was wanting to get another 3/8" Mesh. 5/8" is to big for the baits I get.

I do keep the bigger stuff but over the years of fishing this area a 3/8" works better or you get lots of gillers.

i bought a stealth from brant at OIFC and its the best net i've had. 10' with 19lbs of lead! i like it when i pull up with other boats and almost float the net on one throw while they're making multiple throws and hardly catching any! they just look at you weird :p He also has a 21lb net but it has the same sinking rate due to the heavier material its made of! I believe a guy down in FL makes them

This shows why a 12 ft net is the only way to go! Almost 50% larger than a 10 footer!
9ft = 254.34 sq ft
10ft = 314.00 sq ft
12ft = 452.16 sq

I always said the same thing on my boat, I always had to let someone drive while I threw the net. You know how many people jumped on my boat and swore they could open a 12' net? :roll

That is great, but that stat also shows you why people like Tim Wade said to me, start with the 10 ft net, get real good at it and then come up to Melbourne (where he is based) and he would show me the way to throw a 12 ft net because in his words its much harder to throw than a 10 ft net.
Another reason why Tim is the man, the guy wasn't going to let me spend my money on something that I knew I would be frustrated, he wants his customers to be happy. To offer to teach me how to throw a net, pretty cool guy to say the least.

Heck - I'd swap mine for a 10' if anyone in my crew could open it properly. Lots of "bananas" and plain old "oops".

This is true. Most people who throw a 12' net should be throwing a 10' net because they can not fully open the 12 and they would save them selves a lot of effort by just throwing the 10.

So true.. I may end up selling my new 12' Calusa for that very reason.

I still believe the math shows that a decent throw with a 12 footer is better (and easier) than a PERFECT throw with a 10 footer. The weight difference is only a couple of pounds, and I had my 5 foot 2, 115 lb girlfriend throwing damn nice casts on my lawn with my 12'. I believe it is technique, not strength, although there is some physical fitness involved. My girl is very athletic but still, I believe I will consistently out fish most people with my 12 footer over their 10!!
Of course there is more to cast netting than just opening the net. You gotta chum them up, get the net loaded and throw it where and when it is right.

I threw a Black Pearl 12' 1/2" mesh last weekend. I will say it was a easy net to open but it was too light for a 12' net in my opinion. If I am throwing a big net it is for big bait and it better sink as fast as possible. The 10' size net is the perfect all around bait net in a 3/8" mesh. The easy part is throwing and opening the net, pulling a 12' net in, is the part that will wear you out.

I never did weigh that Warsaw but I am 5'8" and 180 lbs. I pick up 100 lb bags at the gym all the time, that fish felt every bit of 140 or better. I could barley hold it up.
