I am going to add 3-4 days and head north.
We'll do Sun-Mon-Tues nights in PTown and then where shall we go?
Keeping in mind we'll have 2 teens with us.

We'll do whale watching in PTown and maybe a fishing trip...

What do you suggest.

We were thinking of heading to Niagra Falls but we are not going to now, We're going to do that on a long weekend in the fall.

Stay on the cape P-town is fun lots of beaches and tons of fishing if you are looking for a charter boat call my buddy Eric Morea (Schooney Charters 508-274-7963) he runs a great trip and you could probably combine a tuna trip and see whales at the same time plus on the way back he pulls lobster traps and lets you keep the days catch.

Lots of other things to do on Cape...but if you're jumping off, there's a couple of options. You could head up to Hampton Beach New Hampshire. It's got a boardwalk, and good entertainment for your kids (teen dance clubs et al). Then you could keep heading up the coast to Portland Me if you want. Coastal town, always stuff to do.

Or you could head inland...maybe hit the White Mountains. Depending on the weather, maybe hike Mt Washington, or at least drive up (scary as hell). Not much to entertain the kids though. I'm sure there are things to do in Vt that don't involve skiing, I'm just not aware of any.

The other thing you could maybe do is take a look at some of the schools, depending on how much of "teens" your kids are. Lots of good colleges up here that you could stop in at.

Any place in town cook them up for you?

I'm thinking 3 nights/ 4 days there will be enough and then we'll have to be on the move northbound.

Head all the way up the Maine coast, ending in Bar Harbor, Maine and Arcadia National Park. Beautiful up there and lots to do.

The "cook your catch" question is a good one. I've never heard of places in Mass that do that.

Talk to Eric he is a really a great guy and will probably be happy to cook them for you. Once you come in from fishing he usually cleans the fish at his house as it is only a mile or so from the ramp so I am sure it wont be a problem for him to boil some water while he cleans your fish tell him Warren sent you....

Just a warning if your thinking of Portland,it's not a very boater friendly/accomodating city.Only one public tie up spot that only has room for 2 boats and it's a pretty short tie up time limit.

Demillios (sp) would be a better spot? The only time I was there was on a 156 Broward.

If your heading further north Rockport MA. is a nice place and you can head on up toward Mt Washington. Take a Cog Rail to the top, weather permitting. Then come back down the coast of Maine. We just did that last fall.

They have transient dockage but bring your wallet,3 bucks a foot with a 30 foot minimum. It actually doesn't matter to the original poster,I was under the impression they were boating up the coast, not driving.

If you have not been to Nantucket, I would recommend taking the ferry over for a few days.

The room will be expensive but your wife and kids will love it. The kids will love the beaches on the south shore, lots of surf and teenagers.

On-Cape:

Hang on the lower Cape: Wellfleet, Truro, Chatham, Brewster... lots of good restaurants, kids can hang at Cahoon Hollow Beach while you're at the Beachcomber having a beer. Go to the Wellfleet Drive-In (yesterday was the 79th anniversary of the Drive-In Movie Theater!). Hang in Chatham Center and spend way too much for souvenirs. Take the ferry out of Hyannis over to Martha's Vineyard for the day... lots to see and do.

Off-Cape:
Head home thru Rhode Island, and take the day ferry over to Block Island out of Point Judith, lots to do there as well. Rent bikes and see the entire island in one day. Good food too.

Not sure of your timing but Gloucester the last weekend in June runs the St Peters Festival. It is a five day celebration including carnival, singing, dancing, and the greasy pole competition! Not to be missed!

Between MD and the cape, you may enjoy Newport, RI or Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut.

Have you been to Provincetown? Ask around. You may not want to go there. (I suspect your kids won't either.)Gloucester is nice. Newport and Mystic CT are super. Your kids will love the Mystic Aquarium and Seaport. In Saybrook CT you can go aboard the Nautilus, the first nuclear sub. In RI there is Battleship Cove.

Provincetown is great- try to rent some bikes and head up to the province lands....great bike trails.

If you want to head a bit further north, try Gloucester or Kennebunkport ME....if you want to go way far north Camden, ME and Penobscot Bay is phenomenal.

Bostonharborbeacon.com has a few additional ideas for day trips around the Boston area.

This is a good point. If you don't know what P-Town is like you may want to check it out before you decide to visit. It is NOT a quaint Cape Cod village. I was there a couple of years ago, the first time in about 30 years and I really have no desire to go back.

Fenway Park? You could take the ferry from Provincetown to Boston, take the T to the game. Catch a Red Sox game. Even if you're not a Red Sox fan, Fenway is a blast.

06-07-2012, 07:30 AM
Fenway is fun if you liked being cramped into tiny seats that don't face the field and dealing with drunken college students yelling "Yankees suck" when they're playing the Royals. Otherwise, it's a crappy run down stadium with overpriced everything and crappy pink hat fans.

Disregard what the close minded folks are saying. P-town is a blast if you like good food, good entertainment, perfect beaches, great views of sunrise/set, and nice people. Sure there are some eclectic folks there, some that intentionally push outsiders envelopes, but by and large the area is great.

No worries, we are fully aware of what goes on up there and we are there do exactly what you say and the whale watching and fishing!

Thank you !

Some Ideas from Cape heading north...

On the Cape after Ptown.
Spend one day on the national seashore. Stop in Welfleet and hit the Beachcomber - great raw bar, good spirits and family friendly. You can hit the beach there too.

Head back along the 6A side. There is plenty to do and the ride is nice. Maybe stop in Dennis to eat and/or beach. There are two public golf courses in Dennis and Bass River is good too. Stop at the canal and bring your shore striper gear, nice bike path.
Drive off Cape and stop in Plymouth. Plymouth plantation, Mayflower, walk the harbor, eat at Mamma Mias or East Bay Grill.

Drive to Boston, Sox Game, Faneuil Hall, take water taxi to the Constitution and tour. Maybe Freedom Trail and plenty of restaraunts.

North of Boston. You can hit Salem and do all the witch stuff, they have a trolley that takes you all over the city, House of Seven Gables and other stuff then stop at Rockport for dinner.

I grew up in P-town and you can spend a whole week there and not be board. There are lots of things to do: climb pilgrim monument, Arts dune tours, whale watch, fishing... if you come during the last week of June you can check out the Portuguese festival and the blessing of the fleet as well as dine at lots of great resteraunts.
