am I alone in thinking the next couple days might get interesting on the South Shore of MA with the Marine Forecast???
I pulled my boat... Any other paranoid boaters out there???

Not sure what forecast you heared. I didn't see anything worse than 10 to 15 gusting to 30.
That's a normal day in buzzards bay.

There is a gale warning....but, winds are forecast not to exceed 30. Am I missing something?

I went down to the dock this afternoon (Sunday) but it was howling so hard I decided not to go out. 2-3 whitecaps in the inner harbor. We are looking at wind up to 30kts and rain all week, but I am not going to pull the boat. My (uneducated) guess is that you are fine in a well protected marina, but perhaps there is reason for concern for folks with a mooring in more open water.
Bottom line, I don't think you are paranoid, just cautious. If nobody else, your insurance company is certainly pleased.

Here is the latest off Green Harbor (South Shore). Should be interesting at that point. I think boats will be fine if in a sheltered harbor.
Monday Night: NNE wind 14 to 18 kt, with gusts as high as 27 kt. Rain likely, mainly before 1am. Patchy fog after 2am. Seas 8 ft subsiding to 4 ft.
The tide at midnight is the highest at 11.80 feet just before midnight.

I went out today and was just going to fish in the harbor so didn't really check the forecast. I ended up in some pretty exciting conditions unexpectedly in the outer harbor. It was raining heavily so i didn't have much visibility at all and right after deer island it became 4 - 6' seas, it was like riding a bucking bronco with some really strong winds. I hung out for a bit, but with that wind and a racing tide the drift was way to fast to be productive. I ended up back around the airport, which still had 2-3' waves. I think folks in a sheltered marina will be fine, there wasn't too bad of a breeze at my dock. If you're exposed to the wind then it could be pretty nasty with those winds.

I wasn't insinuating a major storm... It really depends on your location, some places here along the South Shore can really be more affected by an incoming NE wind than Buzzards Bay can be...
I know one thing... I seen a few very experienced guys haul out today... Admittedly I followed their lead...

They were moving boats up the river in the Merrimack from the first few marinas to the ones near micheals
I was pretty surprised to see that.

Now ya got me a little nervous. I'm out in Hobbs hole, no protection from the jetty....just the beach. Glad I put new mooring lines on this year! Fingers crossed

I just left the Plymouth ramp.. it's blowing like a bastard down there and the majority of the wind is forecasted for tomorrow night.... I always felt pretty safe on a mooring though because it allows the boat to "ride it out" naturally... i'm on a slip that is completely exposed to the NE, bad combination for this snot weather...
Good luck Fire!! got my fingers crossed for ya!!

Well, not a lot I can do now anyway. Overtime tonight and working tomorrow. Where are you Cordage? or Brewers. I thought about spending the $ for Cordage, but there is no protection......and no water, unless it's all stacked up inside!! Thanks for thinking of me. Stay safe. Mark

Yesterday righ outside of Sesuit Harbor in the afternoon it was blowing 20-25 gusting to 35 out of N/NW and the seas were stacked up, 4-5 footers with some 6s thrown in.

I think most of the alarm in the forecast has to do with the NE winds combined with astronomical high tide and how that recipe can possibly effect the South Shore's coastal communities. The highest tides are late at night so most people won't see any flooding if there is any. Daytime high tides with a storm like this would bring people out to the seawalls and would generally create more alarm for people out and about during their normal daily routine. This shouldn't be too bad though.
However, I ran from Green Harbor to the North River yesterday morning and it was pretty crappy out there. I'd say solid 3-4s with an occasional 5 thrown in. Not survival conditions, but certainly uncomfortable.
After ungrounding a 35' Chaparral in the Herring River, the run back south to Green Harbor was simply fun. The seas had built a little more, maybe 4-5s with a 6 from time to time. But since I was running down hill I could make an easy 21-22 knots and had fun surfing the waves. There were a few other boats out there which probably shouldn't have been out in those conditions though.

I think Hobbs hole and plymouth marina will be fine. Long beach and the breakwater should provide good protection from anything that a no name storm will bring. I prolly wouldnt want to be on Saquish though. Im right a stones throw from the rock but im going to go down around noon to check things out. My dad left his sportfish in at brewers Plymouth last year (Osterville had a mandatory evac) for the hurricane in sept and it was fine.

We pulled the NBPT Harbor Patrol boat out today after responding to a boat breaking off its morring and running aground. The river is much worse than youd think. I'd advise that anyone with a boat in the water, goes and checks on it. Tonights high tide will be the highest of the next few days.

Why would you pull the Harbor patrol boat? I would think you may be called upon to help someone especially during questionable times like these.
