We will be headed to Orange Beach this weekend. We are staying at Phoenix on the bay. I was wondering if it was worth towing the boat down there? Looking to cruise around, won't be fishing just hanging out with the family. Do they have any spots where people just anchor out or beach up on sand bars? Any events or places to access by boat. If anybody has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
doradohunter

Robinson and Bird Island, and many restaurants have boat access. Youll regret not bringing your boat.

Robinson Island is right in front of POB when you look out and see all the boats you'd wish you had yours - I'd bring the boat

Absolutely. You could basically swim to Robinson Island from Phoenix on the Bay. Water is as clear as I can remember. You'd be kicking yourself if you didn't.

Bring it. Take it to pirates cove for lunch then hit robinson island after. The water is as clear as I can remember. We go every weekend.

Guys thanks for the advice.... Any trouble zones to stay clear of with low tides? Is the bay marked for easy navigation. also there should be plenty of places to wash and flush the salt water out of the motor?
Again thanks for all the advice, I'm new to THT and kinda new to boating in general......

You need to stay in or near the channel in most cases around Robinsion Island until you are ready to beach it or anchor if you are unfamiliar with the area. It can get shallow quickly while crusing around the land. POB should have freshwater at the dock for wash/flush, if not go to the pressure washer at Canal and 161 intersection (where you would turn to get to the beach road) They have a motor flush attachment.

Take it. You will regret it if you don't. Trouble spots and channels are well marked and there will be plenty of other boats to follow if you need to. Since you are unfamiliar with the area my advice would be...if it looks shallow, it probably is.

Everyone's talking about the "clear water". They are right on target. I'm at Mess About Marina (next to Sportsman) and for as many years that I've traveled to Destin, OB, Panama City...I've never seen Orange Beach's water look SOO Good. Was at Sandy Island (Pensacola Pass) on the hook the other weekend and you could see the ripples in the sand at 12 feet.
Hope it last, with soo much rain lately. Great time to boat. Might look at Old River @ Ono Island and drop a hook at FlouraBama. Always a great place to party. Pirates Cove is always a hoot and great crowd and some pertty good food.
Take a look at one of the Islands by Terry Cove!

With the rain over the past 36 hours, we're more like chocolate milk than the beautiful water we had. Hope the rains hold off so folks can enjoy the water. We had a steady stream of gorgeous sport fishers today coming through Mobile Bay and into the Intracoastal. Not sure where they were headed, but what a beautiful site!

Thanks, Big Bill. I read a later thread on the MS Billfish Classic and figured that was the event. I have a great view from our place and they were really beautiful rolling out of Mobile Bay into the ICW. Hope everyone dodged the lightning safely!
