I'm looking for a Garmin 178c gps/sounder or newer compatable unit. Anyone have one kicking around?

I have a complete system that I just took off our boat to replace with an integrated radar system:

- Garmin 178c color chartplotter & depth finder (excellent working condition, no scratches)
- Transducer (used in fresh water)
- GPS antenna
- All wiring
- Mounting bracket
- Manual

Works great and has only 56 hours on it. Am looking for $250.

Gotcha. Wasn't clear from your original post what you needed.

I've replaced units in the past, because I bought the boat in another area, so the chip was no good (to me) and new one's were no longer available in the media type needed.

I looked on the Garmin website and found out which model used the same transducer, power cables and bail, then looked for newer compatible units that used the same.....

my point being, with a little research, you might be able to find a newer (than 178C) with more features that'll drop right in.

that model unit was well used over the past 5 years, the lifespan is only 5 years for Garmins. The new models w/3D imaging is pretty much useless to me in salt water or else Furuno, Raytheon & Hondex would be on it bigtime.

aloop, do you still have the old unit? if the screen is good in it then i'd buy it off you as i have one with a faded screen that i could replace no probs.

How much would you want for the old unit? I only want this if the screen is still good.
