A friend of mine just called me to see if there is any truth in the rumor that a new bill has been proposed to require a life raft on any boat going further than 5 miles offshore. Has anyone heard about this?

They are updated CG regs and I believe they have already been approved. I also believe it was beyond 3 miles and was for commercial boats. I know there's a cutoff on life floats and buoyant apparatus being legal, I think that was 2016. You'll have to look it up at the CG site.

There was a summary of the regs in either The Watermen's Gazette or National Fisherman a couple of months ago, that's where I saw them.
