Sorry to hear about your mom. I haven't been down to the keys in about ten years. We stayed in Key west that time. If I had it to do over I would stay in Islamorada or that general area. I lost my father 13 weeks ago. Take the time now and make some memories. Life is to short. You may be able to find someone down there and explain the situation that may give a break on the rent. Still alot of nice people in this world. Good luck on finding somewhere & the time with your mom. Keep us posted.

Go with a VBRO.com

I spent a week here in Marathon and was amazing.

Might be able to work out cheaper monthly rate.

For a couple of months, I would go with a duplex in Key Colony Beach. You can get these thru VRBO or type key colony beach vacation rental in your browser.

Here is another suggestion, maybe this is what I wish I had done. Depending on her need for doctor care, drugs etc. and if she had not seen much of the world, I would book good cabins(what budget would allow) on cruise ships doing back to back to back cruises for a month or more, and they might be cheaper than renting a home in the keys. They even have a doctor on board for emergencies.
