I am sure that this topic has been batted around more than Ford v Chevy v Dodge...
I am looking at upgrading my chartplotter on my 21' North River Seahawk and am trying to decide which of these 2 units to go with. I currently have an older Garmin chartplotter and I have used the 4212 and they are easy to operate. On the other hand, I have friends that have Raymarine and have 'convinced' me that the newer Raymarine is the cats meow. I am not going to be using the sonar feature on either as I have a Furuno FCV620 that works flawless. I am really liking some of the bells and whistles of the Raymarine unit.
What is everyones thoughts and/or advice on this? Also, do you think a 12" is too much for a 21' boat?
Thanks for the help before I drop some dough within the next couple of days......

You will never regret the larger screen that is for sure. Yes the Garmin is easy to use but with Raymarines new user interface it is just as easy to use and more customizable to your liking than the Garmin. The Raymarine is also a much faster machine, there is no redraw on the zoom or when panning around a chart. The Raymarine also offers the Bluetooth connectivity for a phone to listen to music or WiFi to use your smart phone as a remote or tablet as a complete second station. This makes building routs and planning trips a breeze because u can use the touch screen feature of the tablet with the C series. The Garmin also uses an LCD screen as compared to the brighter LED screen that will not burn up on the Raymarine.
The Garmin is also a 5 year old machine so one would think it will be discontinued soon as the Raymarine is new and will be in production for some time. I wouldnt even think twice about it and go with the Raymarine. Much faster unit and I prefer the navionics charts over garmins any day.

So, let me get this correct.....
I just picked up a Raymarine C125 tonight, got home to install it atop my dash and there is no mounting bracket? Am I to assume that you have to buy an additional bracket or are they supposed to be included? You would think for a little over $2k there should be a means for mounting this unit. What can you tell me?

If that's the case, out of principle, I may be a tight wad and take it back. When I picked it up from the store, the guys casually handed it to me and said, thanks...and went about their business.
It's not like I just bought a soda, how about making sure I didn't need anything else? And now they are open M-F 8-5 and no weekends? Makes it tough for the work schedule.
maybe I am just a little torked right now......

I believe it comes with the flush mounting bracket but not the trunion mount.

99% of people mount their 12 inch screens flush mounted into their dash.

I wish I had that ability. I am mounting it on the dash of my North River Seahawk. I don't have that kind of dash space.

Does raymarine have anything comparable to the Garmin auto guidence yet? I have used a 5212 and have found this feature very useful especially when combined with an autopilot.
