We got our ass beat today! We got our ass beat today!!! There, I think that covered it. Lol. I think we were the only outboard boat out there. Never saw anything but charters today, and not too many of those. I think the majority went south of the Point. We started a little north at around the 605, and ended up at around the 585. Most of our fish were caught around 595 line in 200'. Water temp was 77.7. We brought home 10 gaffers, and lost probally another 5. We went thru 2 bags of ballyhoo by 100. By that time, seas had increased to a solid 4-5 with occasional 6-7. It was snotty all day long. I even had a wave break over the bow while trolling. Tough day to catch fish. I'll try to post pics later when I get home from vacation.

I toyed going out and it was a bit too rough for me . . . I like to be solid on my feet . . . it must have been a major job checking the lines and fighting fish especially when heading into the wind or in a beam sea.

Congrats on your catch. Job well done.

I heard that most of the boats hung around about 3 to 5 miles north of the Point.

Yup a 60 footer charter can really flatten the water compared to a smaller boat . . . but I bet it still rock and rolled a bit for even your boat.

Nice catch.

Nice catch on the charter racer. That charter boat capt caught a lot of mahi for you guys:) You could have caught a ride with us and gotten the small boat experience! We were fishing beside this one charter, and he looked to be rocking and rolling a little as well. We started out fishing 7 lines and ended up fishing 5. There was so much grass scattered in the water that we were constantly having to clear the lines. Good day on the water though.

Correction.................You and I were the only OB boats out there,,, We too took a ass beating today. We ended up with handful of gaffers, handful of bailers. Had a big wahoo eat off a mono rig, Oh did catch a cobia trolling balyhoo's at 8 mph, 1st for me for that. Did I mention we got our ass beat??? Day before was a good one. 30 gaffers and Wahoo. Burned up 50 balyhoo. We did all our fishing out of Hatteras fishing between the 175 and 250 line 18 to 35 fathoms.

Lol. Yep, I'm a little sore today. Mahi fishing is really good though. At came in early yesterday due to the conditions, and the forecast of rougher seas to come. We may try and get out Friday, depends on how soon that front comes in.

Dave, it looks like my boat is getting a good wash down right now. That tropical low is right on top of you. Are you getting alot of rain?

I fished out of Hatteras yesterday in a 25' Carolina Classic. We caught 10 dolphin close to Diamond Shoals tower in 13 to 17 fathoms in scattered grass. Green seemed to be the favorite color yesterday, but they we also had bites on pink/white and blue/white. We hope to make it back out on Friday.

Thanks Dave. I'm sure we are high and dry... and washed down. Everything should be good for a few more weeks. Then I'll get started on all the stuff I neglected the past 6 months.

we tried to make it out on the new to me contender 27 yesterday toi join dave.. but 20 miles out and we started smelling fuel.. quick investigation found that my center tank fuel sending unit had a hole in it and was spiiting fuel into the bilge.. so we turned around and headed back to fix the fuel leak concern before a fire or explosion.. was not happy when dave showed up to the dock with all those gaffers.. but new sending unit and fuel leak is fixed.. looking to go friday and hopefully catch some dophin.. mark your boat looked fine as of 4pm this evening on the lift.. but you are right about your house battery, i'm sure your bilge pump was pumping out some water.. it was coming down hard.. pulled my boat out of the water and put it on the trailer for safe keeping until tomorrow
