So I watched Cinderella Man, then read up on Joe Lewis. That led me to watch some Youtube vids on Tyson... watched Berbick vs Tyson, then Lewis vs Tyson.
Whatever happened to heavyweight boxing? I never hear about it anymore. Is it even still around? Anyone follow it?

Can you say Don King..??
Scumbag promoter. Completely turned Tysons life around....for the worse.
The public became sick and tired of the antics, scams and notoriety of most boxing events.
My boxing hero?? Buster Douglas...
Have you ever watched the Klitschko brothers box ?
In a nutshell - big, strong, competent and BORING AS HELL
and the majority of the "Challengers" are guys who didn't make it as defensive ends.

MMA has killed boxing. Who wants to watch 2 guys stand up and trade punches when you can see broken bones and wicked scissor kicks? This is "reality" fighting which is what people want nowadays.

Can you say James "Light Out" Toney??? He was submitted in the 1st round (I believe) against Randy Couter. Two totally different sports IMO, MMA fighters could not Box with the good boxers, they might could hang for awhile. A Boxer has ZERO chance in the Octagon......ZERO. They get tied like a pretzel within seconds and Tap

I think pay-per-view killed boxing. Boxing used to have a much broader audience, and since people knew they could see title matches on regular TV, they'd pay more attention to under-card fights and non-title events. What's left of the boxing fan base is aging as more younger people turn to UFC.

X 2 that has not helped
The promoters are greedy little azzholes. $50.00 to see a un - unified title bout - No thanks
Heavyweight Championships used to be an event, now its " Oh yeah, who fought? Really, never heard of him.
It is going the way of horse racing - No one cares

30 of the best rounds in boxing history.
That being said, I think Boxing killed Boxing and MMA just stepped in to fill a vacuum. The latest drama of the Pacquiao/Bradley debacle is all one needs to know about the current state of boxing.
I just can't get into MMA. A bad day at the office for an MMA fighter is another man straddling his face, shoving his nasty/sweaty scrotum in up his nose and trying to land awkward punches. Not exactly the "sweet science".

I used to love boxing, but hated the "decisions" what a corrupt sport!! Yet some of the most amazing displays of courage and heart. Ya gotta love MMA now....those are some bad dudes!

I can't stand MMA. I'd much rather watch a good boxing match. I think that between the corrupt promoters, exorbitant PPV fees and lousy heavyweight division, boxing is on the ropes. That said, I would love to see someone kick the shit out of Mayweather at some point. :-)

As a previous poster said, boxing killed boxing, I use to be a big fan, go to fights subscribe to ppv, go to the gym and watch the fighters work out, at one time outside of boating/fishing it was where I spent most of my disposable/entertainment dollars, then came the Oscar De La Hoya Felix Trinidad fight and Oscar ran the last five rounds made no effort to fight, I said then, never again, never again, I have not paid for a fight since then nor have I been to the gym, I shut that faucet off and walk away for good.
The promoters can keep that dog and pony show.
