I am looking at a boat to buy and it has a Lowrance HDS unit on it with no map card, can you guys tell me what a good buy is for depths, wrecks,Rocks and contours? I am guessing its one of the Navionics but man there are so many to choose from.

Here is a link to the Navionics page depends on if you want 3D with the Platinum or 2D with the Gold
http://store-mirror.navionics.com/no_ntag_charts/show_valid_charts?dimension=2D&region=north_america&valid_groups=XL9

Gold would be the 1XG for Texas Coastal
http://store-mirror.navionics.com/charts/907P+
Or 7 for Platinum+ Texas Coastal

Oh yah the other cool thing is the Freshest Data and Community Layer feature! Free updates for a year and local info!

The 907P+ will give you the best data available along with the additional overlays, panoramic photos, etc.
And as was mentioned, unlimited Freshest Data updates for a year. (Plus a free PC app with the chart, too)

How do these compare to the internal nautical insight that the lowrance comes with, a lot more detail?

Here's a bump for you. I'm interested in the answer too.

Well I bought the platinum plus western Gulf of Mexico and I gotta say I am pretty disappointed. It does give me depth and some structure but it is pretty blah on my screen , all white screen with little black lines for the squares, you have to really zoom in to see any bottom contours, sure doesn't seem worth $180 to me. Funny how the sample photos always look way cooler than the real thing!

I had a guy tell me that he thought that checking to see if my HDS7 has all the updates might fix the crappy view of the Navionics card, can anyone confirm this?
