Yep. Saltist 4500 with 40 pound braid. That reel has winched up tons of big bottom dwellers. Love it.

Was that GWAR playing in the background and why was there only one beer in the vid and three guys on the boat?

the band is called Sick Of It All
the camera only captured the back 1/3 of the boat. plenty of beer located off screen, trust me.

that was good..
You really gaffed that fish tho? I could not see the hook so maybe it was about to pop?
A charter boat that sits next to us sent down a water proof go pro and a red grouper ate it LOL.. He got it back but its pretty funny. SLob fish. I will see if I can get the footage

yes.
why would i risk losing a quality fish because i wanted to look like Jose Wejebe or some crap? only rookies would make a dumbass mistake like that.

the majority of our quality fish came on jigs with cut bait. they weren't turning down live bait either, though.

Guess I must be a rookie a dumbass rookie. ;? Think I have gaffed 2 or 3 grouper in the past 3-5 years. They were over 20lbs. Only time I grab the stick is if I can't see the hook. Worst case I grab the fish by the mouth. I just figure why gaff the meat of a fish but that would be a "rookie" question I guess.
Pretty sure my gunwales are higher and we still grab them by the mouth. kinda like grouper noodling expect they are a little tired
Maybe I have not caught enough fish yet to figure it out. I will keep practicing and see if my method changes.

I think my point is -- if you don't know, why bother making the comment? You even said yourself that you couldn't exactly see the hook placement. Instead of questioning the method if you don't know the whole story, why not just say "hey, nice fish. Good video" or whatever?
I'll keep doing it my way with a gaff whenever I feel that a gaff is necessary. You keep doing it your way. I'll continue to load my boat with fish, just as I'm sure you will.
Carry on...

I'm the one who gaffed the fish, rookie mistake....but then again, I've only been fishing the lower Florida Keys since 1977 so I've got a lot to learn. Lucky for me there are a lot of experts on THT that can teach me the proper way to put fish in the boat.
Here are two muttons from last spring....I caught them solo, so I used a small pick gaff for these two. But they're just little ones, one was 18.5# and the other was 19.8#. I'm such a pussy, 2am, solo, using a gaff and all.

I use the GoPro Cineform Studio I downloaded for free from the GoPro site. I'm just a beginner at editing these videos but it has worked well for me so fare and the price is right. And yes I use a Windows version.

I use the same deal little pick gaff.. out of like a 6-8ot J jook. I would have picked those as well. We boated 50 grouper today not one gaff. Even the big ones. Was not trying to start a rookie war just saying don't need to gaff a grouper when they are hooked. My rule of thumb is if I can't see the hook I pick gaff it. If I can see it and its good I mouth it.
20lb gag yeah he is getting poked because they go nuts in shallow water. Deep water big grouper get stuck regardless due to the air blatters and depth. They come up and their blatter goes that hook will fly.. We stick em fast.
Sorry for insulting your fishing skill. you have been fishing down there longer than I have been alive  If that makes ya feel any better. I have been fishing over on the west side for 17 years or so.. So I think we can throw rookie out of the mix for both of us.
