Hey Everyone - thought some of you might find this useful:
CHECK YOUR STRUT BEARING
Over time the rubber in the bearing can become worn. When this happens you may feel some vibration and if the bearing is not replaced it can wear the propeller shaft. It is possible to wear the shaft to the point that it needs to be replaced.
The strut supports the propeller shaft just forward of the propeller. A bearing in the form of a bronze sleeve lined with rubber is the device that limits the movement of the propeller shaft in the strut and provides a surface for the shaft to turn on.
A quick way to check the condition of the bearing, and avoid repair costs, is to grab the propeller and attempt to move the shaft up and down and side to side. If the bearing is good there will be no movement. If there is movement it would be best to have your shop replace the bearing before additional damage occurs.
